Everyone on TV is saying we should do this.
That's all well and good, IF IT IS AN OPTION, but some people just don't have the money to BUY A NEW CAR. I know, the long term savings, but in the short term I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY A NEW CAR.
The other suggestion makes a huge and very annoying assumption. Annoying because I imagine they did NO research on it. Not everyone HAS a public transportation option. If the places I needed to go were even within 2 blocks of the nearest bus stop, I MIGHT consider it, but that's just not the case. Without a car, the majority of people I know are STRANDED, physically stranded with no realistic hope of just walking the distance.
Oh, and the most hilarious suggestion? Try living closer to where to you work, or working closer to where you live. Do they honestly believe that people don't strive for this anyway, or that it is even an option?
Seriously, I hear these suggestions and I wonder exactly what sort of lives these people lead (likely helicoptering in every day and carried by 4 large cabana boys to their desk in front of the news camera) that make them think their suggestions are even remotely feasible for the average human being.
