    Not me, that's who... doesn't....

But like, apparently the preorders were pretty thick.

So the question is, did the thing sell awesomly or not? I'm thinking.... okay honestly I have no idea, but I'm cautiously saying it did pretty well.

Exxxactly. Well, Sony finally started advertising the thing on TV it seems.

Also, Penny Arcade is saying it is "important".

I suspect the thing will start selling VERY well now. How long can it keep it up? That depends on how many people want to pay $250 for the system.

    My car = $8,000

    Porsche = $lots more

    Just saying.

If the DS were even close to being as powerful as the PSP then you could start complaining. But it's not. You're actually getting much more bang for your buck with the PSP than the DS. Sony is losing LOTS of money on each unit.

Oh and you can get almost all of the games for $35.

In case anyone is wondering, here is some impressions from another forum I visit:

Quote:Picking mine up today... let you know how it is.

This guy is a big Nintendo fan:
Quote:Well I bought it on the way home. Walmart had a bunch in stock.

I picked up Need for Speed Rivals.

    First impressions.

It's overpriced. If it was $200 instead of $250 it'd be ok. But dropping $300+ and getting one game is hard even for me.

The PSP is sexy. The thing shines. The shoulder buttons are clear. The screen is almost too wide. Which of course when it comes to wide screens means it's just right. The joystick will take some getting used to.

The memory stick makes MP3 use a snap. I need to get a memory stick port thing for my PC. You can save video photos or music to view.

EA games let you play their licensed soundtracks.

Haven't tried the game yet, just looked at the sampler videos. The graphics will impress you. Stylistically and graphically, Nintendo has been blown away.

It comes with headphones. But cooler, it comes with a remote that has a clip and passthrough port for the headphones.

So you put the PSP in your pocket, the remote clipped to your clothes, and the earphones up to your ears and you're jamming with a portable mp3 player.

It comes with a case like a cloth eye glasses case. The charger or headphones can still be connected if you slide it into the pouch from the right angle so you can protect the screen at all times. It comes with a terry cloth. Nice touch.

If only it came with a fifty dollar bill.

    Comes with Spiderman 2, also.

It'll definitely be impressive to anyone who sees it. If it sells, I think the video library will open up a touch.

Overall, my first impressions are higher than I expected. The price is up there, but the unit is sexier than pictures of the hardware would lead you to believe. That coupled with the graphics and mp3 playback and it actually is impressive.

Anyone who is into this type of thing would look at those features and be wowed. I look forward to showing it off a bit.
And, yes, he was chastised for getting N4S..

    Same guy:
Quote:I can't answer those questions, but there were a couple things I forgot.

The first was that the UMD discs come in a hard case with a cut away slot so the laser can read them. The entire thing, disc and case, goes into the system.

I've played some Need For Speed. My eyes burn from not blinking, heh.

My thumb is a little cramped on the right hand from using the buttons and the start/select buttons are hard to find.

The joystick is decent, but Need for Speed is a bad game to judge it. It uses obviously digital controls so I just stick with the d-pad which is positioned better.

I'm done playing with it for now.

Quote:My buddy busted his out today with Twisted Metal and the Spiderman movie. From what I saw the screen is amazing and the game was real fun for the limited time I played it.

The joystick was different but easy to use, other than that I didn't see too much. But like people said, its a real crowd pleaser. Its a wow when you first see it.

The Nintendo fan then went onto defend his purchase of N4S and is saying that he's enjoying it. So.. not much, but it sounds like a crowd pleaser at the very least, even if you don't have the best games for it just yet.

Would that be Metal Gear? :)

Or for racing, Ridge Racer is definitely a better series than NFS...

    Metal Gear?

Sounds to me like Lumines is the best game for the system, ATM. Pity no-one will buy it. Surely in the future Sony would consider a bundle deal. Or even Twisted Metal if they wanted to keep the 'cool' and 'mature' gimmick.

I'd personally be picking up Twisted Metal and Wipeout straight up, with Hot Shots Golf in the future, and Lumines along with Metal Gear if I had money left over.

But.. I'm saving at the moment, so... :(

    Hmm..

Quote:I got mine on day one. It is impressive and Lumines is the game to own for it. Make sure you pick it up if you have yet to. You can watch videos on the memory stick on the PSP unit -- such as shows downloaded via BT off the net. There's numerous easy to use converters out there just for that purpose. I'm going to try to pick up a new memory stick today if I can and work the transfer. I already have the cable necessary for the file transfer.

Oh and my screen had no scratches and 0 dead pixels. It's gorgeous.

Quote:jesus, this thing is addictive. Untold legends is essentially Baldur's gate 2 / CON. It looks freakin' amazing.

Quote:I got just Lumines with mine after hearing Tycho Brahe rave about it.

That's my new rule.. if Tycho raves about it and I have even the slightest love for the genre.. it's probably a buy.

Lumines is a buy. It is to the PSP as Tetris is to the GB, a puzzler and the one game on the system that basically anybody can enjoy.

I would have definitely appreciated seeing Lumines as a pack-in instead of Spider Man 2, the movie..

I've come to the conclusion I want one. It'll be a long time before I get one, but when I do, I know exactly what games I want (though that will change later when more games come out that I want :D). Right now, the games I want when I get the system are: Lumines (I love puzzle games), Metal Gear Acid (eh, strategy is good, I've heard good things), and yes, Ape Escape. Haven't read much, but what I'm expecting is pretty much the same thing I got with the PS1 game, and I enjoyed that.

Stay away from Ape Escape! I've heard nothing but bad things about the PSP version. Remember, it was a dual-analogue game.

I hadn't thought about that, nor had I read reviews, but that does make sense. If Mario 64 on DS controls like karp, then I can only imagine the horrors of a game that was originally designed for two analog sticks with no touch screen substitute.

Am I to assume that that game is, in fact, a port or remake of the PS2 game as opposed to a brand new game? If it is a brand new game, it's a shame they couldn't come up with a new system of gameplay and control from scratch for it...

Yes, and honestly it is just a weaker PS2. Yes, I know it's portable, and I won't pretend that's not SOMETHING. Also, the fact that the system comes with the ENTIRE Spider Man 2 movie bundled with it is nice, considering I don't own, nor have I even seen, that movie. It's just... well I really have a hard time spending more money for a system that's weaker.

I'm... not sure I understand what you are getting at.

I don't have a PSP, but Kenny has a PSP in the newest episode of South Park. :D That episode ruled... it was a take on the Schiavo case. W3rd.

The what? Oh, that's a hard to pronounce name... Yeah, I saw that on the news... ALL the news channels... why do they CARE? What, slow news week? This isn't exactly the first time the issue has come up.

So um, what the PSP's batteries died and they had to keep it on life support? Yeah, I do that a lot with my DS.

I don't know why it's such a big deal, but I'm glad her suffering is over now.

As for the episode, Kenny died but was brought back in a vegetative state and was kept on a feeding tube. In his will, he left his PSP for Cartman. Cartman wanted Kenny to die so that he could get the PSP, so he pretended that his reason for wanting Kenny dead was because he was in a vegetative state. Stan and Kyle knew Cartman's real intentions, so they got the media's attention in an effort to prevent Kenny from dying. Meanwhile, heaven and hell were preparing for a war with each other and Kenny was heaven's only hope for victory, so they needed him to die and go to heaven.

But the battery life support idea would've been funny too. :D
