Quote:I have dozens of posts from you where you denied the possibility of a successful PSP. You even said that the GBA itself was enough to fend off the system. Don't try to backtrack, okay? We all know what your stance has been.
The GBA should be a strong competitor for the next year, anyway. With its sales base, and consistent game sales, you can't count it out yet, and it definitely helps Nintendo hold on to the portable gaming market... so yes, it definitely helps against the PSP. Is it enough alone? Not with the adult market for sure, but children, perhaps yes.
Quote:Yeah, what a perfectly good position, you're totally right. It absolutely makes sense. Microsoft is totally as inept as Sega. What was I thinking??!
They sure seem to be trying that same strategy! Sega used it for the Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast... and of course it only worked in the first of those three cases. It also failed for 3D0, NEC (TurboGrafx), Atari, etc, etc... sure, most of those have other circumstances that helped with their defeat while MS is in much better shape. But still, I'm not sure why an early launch would help it have overall victory. There just is no trend that that is the case and I doubt it's going to start being that way now. It's just a short-term gain, and once Sony is in with a new console it'll be mostly erased.
Quote:I just said that the PS2 came out later than it could have because of the PS1's success, genius. Why don't you try reading my posts every once in a while.
Quote:The PS2 came out a bit later than it would have if the PS1 were less successful because Sony had no competition to worry about. The Dreamcast was only a niche success and the N64 was dead. No Gamecube for a long time, either. Now, on the other hand, the only company that has a chance of taking the crown from Sony is releasing their next-generation hardware a whole year before they release theirs. Sony's official response is "that didn't work for the DC, so it won't work for the XB2", which is foolish and very much like Nintendo's earlier stance on the PSP (and still the stance of many a blind fanboy, yourself included). I can guarantee, however, that as soon as Sony sees Microsoft's impressive XB2 showing at E3, they're not going to allow any sort of delay for the PS3 and will release it as soon as humanly possible. My guess is that they'll try to get it out as early as summer '06 in Japan. Just a hunch.
My point was that it was more than 'a bit later'. Definitely more.
