Well, that may not be the best explanation I've ever heard for an opinion, but in my thread no opinion will be ridculed!!

    ...

    Maybe.

Anyway, this is a tough decision all around since I made the list and all the ones on there are ones that I like a lot. But, if it really came right down to selecting one game and one game only I'd probably have to go with MGS2. No offence, to any of the other games, MGS2 is just a beautiful game and the story is just insane, but in a good way. It had decent voice-acting and just had a good cinematic feel to it, without being too like a movie.

Console game? Otherwise PC games are included, which makes my choice really easy... Warcraft III of course. :)

If it's not including PC, it's kind of hard to say given that I don't own either a PS2 or an X-Box. And none of the games I've played for those systems jump out at me as 'obviously the best game of the generation'... GTA3 is good, yeah, but the best? I don't know... (and before OB1 talks about Ico, I haven't actually played it, just seen it being played for a little while, and that isn't enough)

Uh... hmm, Fire Emblem for GBA is a contender too... :)

MGS3 bitch slaps MGS2 from here to Hong Kong in every single category except for story. There's no contest whatsoever. It's not even a contest!

I voted for ICO, of course, but for me that falls into the "most inspirational game ever" category rather than the best game ever category. That honor goes to Super Metroid.

We might as well throw in PC games considering the amount of PC gamers here.

    ...

ABF, you have to vote in the thing too!

There, then, I voted for Other.

Of this generation, OB1, that's the question... otherwise of course my answer would have been OoT...

I assumed if I said "non-Gamecube" people would kind of get the hint that it meant THIS generation.

I haven't gotten very far into MGS3 yet, so until then...

Hmm...a tough call. So many great games this gen...but my vote is clear. It took up more hours of my life than any game ever has. It took over my life. I bought posters, figures, and other eBay-only artifacts. One of the characters is in my friggen avatar!

The answer is, of course, Final Fantasy X. Many don't like it, and there were many excellent games also released this gen, but for my vote, FFX gave me more solid playtime (and enjoyment) than any other. It was the first game I bought on my PS2 when I got it three years ago, and I still play it today.

    There you have it.

    *Honorable Mention*

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
    Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
    Beyond Good & Evil
    Katamari Damacy
Mega Man Anniversary Collection (Does this even count? I mean, it's all old games.)

There's no question which game totally absorbed me.

This would be Silent Hill, Jr.

I would say that the mark of a good game, or any piece of entertainment, be it literary, film, etc, is that it makes me think about it after I've played/seen/read it. The mark of a truly great game is one that makes me want to research it further, not in the gameplay aspect, but to find other people, and sit around and analyze the story together, gaining all sorts of insight because the game just offers so much that you don't immediately notice. I love psychological kicks, and Silent Hill is known for that, but the second takes the cake. As far as an actual video game goes, it's pretty average. It's the least-frightening in it's own series, and it's not a terribly difficult game, but none of that matters to me, because the heart, soul, liver and lungs of this game are the storyline, the characters, and the very town in which it all takes place. Almost everything and everyone you see is a metaphor for an aspect of your character, and while that concept alone is nothing terribly special, it's the fantastic subtlety by which it is presented to you. Unless you're extraordinarily perceptive, you'll not even absorb a tenth of the game's depth on your first run through, and most likely, you're going to realize much of it while you're not playing. A truly great work of art can give you that sort of feeling, and Silent Hill 2 perhaps one of maybe a half-dozen games tops that I can say this about, and of those half-dozen, SH2 is definitely, unquestionably tops. I wonder if such a game will ever come along again, and while I'm saddened that so many people refuse to give this game a chance, I feel kind of special that I did, and that I found so much sheer pleasure out of it, and that I continue to, almost four years after I first played it.

They made a Silent Hill Jr? Do you just play as a kid or has it been toned down to get an E rating?

Possibly, but then, I had a similar experience with Zelda. Believe it or not, I never even played Mario64 before I got it on the DS. Zelda took up most of my N64 time before Super Smash Bros and StarFox64 came along.

Zelda: OoT is my favorite non-FF game, besides Chrono Trigger. And am I the only one who liked WW? It was a drop from OoT, but it was scades better than MM.

Final Fantasy X has taken the last 3 days of my life away, the same time I got a PS2

I was obsessed with FFX for a while after I got it too. However, I couldn't beat Seymour on that one mountain (the name of which escapes me) and so I haven't played the game in about three years.

Yeah, that battles a bitch. A couple pointers:

Mt. Gagazet is full of fiends, so spend some time charging up everybody's Overdrives before going to face Seymour. Also, make sure you visit Wantz and grab at least 8 or 10 Holy Waters. I know, they're expensive, but they're worth every Gil.

Once you do, start out the battle by smashing Seymour with Auron's Shooting Star Overdrive to get the battle started on a 9999 note. After that, use Tidus' Spiral Cut and Wakka's Attack Reels (if you have them, if not, Element Reels is fine).

Next, bring in Lulu and cast Bio. Unlike many bosses in the game, Seymour is vulnerable to Poison, so exploit this weakness to get a big leg up. Also, only summon Aeons if they arein Overdrive, as you only get one shot with them, then Seymour banishes them

Eventually, Seymour will cast Total Annihilation. When he charges it up, bring in Wakka and Auron (or whichever of your characters have the highest defense) bring in Rikku with her Mix overdrive and mix together any two Curtain items (Light, Lunar, or Star) to give the party Super Mighty G. If you don't have Rikku in Overdrive, or don't have enough items, Kimahri should also have Mighty Guard as one of his Ronso Rage Overdrives. If you have neither, use Yuna to Shell and Protect one character (probably Auron) so at least he can survive, then use a Mega Phoenix to bring everyone else back. If you need more time, attack Seymour's chariot and make it absorb HP from Seymour to somewhat delay the attack. Now, just have all your party members defend and weather the attack. Afterwards, if everyone survived, you'll have Haste and Regen from Rikku's Mix, so you should heal a good portion of what Seymour did without using Yuna. Hack away at Seymour until he falls.

That's the strategy I use and I never have any problems with this battle any more. Good luck!
The Earthworker Race has ended.  Everybody wins.
