Touch and Twist!

Touched is coming out tomorrow and for some stupid reason the msrp is $40 so you're gonna have to fork over that much at places like eb and gamestop, but with those BB coupons you can get it there for $30 (the regular BB price is $35). Crappy, huh? Reviews have been out for a while and everyone says that while it's a lot of fun, Wario Ware Twisted (which comes out next month for the GBA), is even better. So yay! Two Wario Wares in two months!

7.2, with a good number of criticisms... not good for a first-party Nintendo game... but yeah, it does say that Twisted is a lot better.

All they do is complain about having to just touch stuff over and over... that's kind of the point of the DS! Gamespot is notorious for their idiotic criticisms.

Wario Ware is fun and all, but my opinion of the series is the same as my opinion of Mario Party. That is, I really don't have a desire to get ALL of them, just the best will do.

IGN gives it a bit higher score than Gamespot, but some of the complaints are the same, primarially the fact that it's very short...

Wario Ware games are always short. It's all about replayability.

Seriously, it's really hard when you have to play minigames you've never seen and have two seconds to figure out what the controls are.

Great party game... with the caveat that people who haven't played have no chance of winning. I could see it getting old in single player after a while, though, since it does just take a little while to go through all the modes and then all you have to do is to replay the modes to try to get better at the minigames...

You've obviously never played multiplayer before. Back in the summer I would have small-to-huge sessions all of the time, with both family and friends, most of them NOT gamers at all. I still go over to one of my friend's house every now and then and play one controller elimination with up to 20 people at a time, again most of them not being gamers. And I don't always win!

That and Pacman Vs. is the best game to play with a bunch of non-gamers. And girls! Girls love those two games. And all of the girls that I know are not gamers. Well, except for one.

OB1, I said that BECAUSE I've played Wario Ware GC in multiplayer mode. Obviously. Otherwise why would I say that? I haven't played the GC game in single player, though... I've only played the GBA one in single. And it wasn't for very long, given that I don't have the game. And I definitely found that it's quite hard to play the minigames when you have no time to figure out the controls. Do you press forward? A? left and right? Sometimes it's clear but sometimes it most definitely is not. Yes, people who don't know what they're doing can still have fun... but they have no chance of beating the people who own the game and have played it much at all. That is, until they too start to memorize the minigames (or the types of minigames and which kinds have which control schemes) too, that is...

I put in a long session of multiplayer Wario Ware on the GC one time, fun times indeed. Just because of how insane and fast the game is it's just hilarious, especially when you have a bunch of other people playing too. Pac-Man Vs. is really fun too.

There were four of us... two who had played it (one owned the game), two who hadn't much. Guess who won? Yeah, the guy who owned the game, most of the time.

I've since played it a few more times so I'm okay now, but there definitely is a learning curve.

OB1, it's not about the number of people. That doesn't matter. What matters is the fact that you are, quite intentionally, not told to do in each game. So you don't know -- do you beat this minigame by tapping A, or by holding forward, or by waiting and then pressing A at some point, etc, etc... you often can't tell this your first time in a minigame! So you frantically try the buttons until time runs out and either you're lucky or you lose. This should be pretty obvious to anyone who has played Wario Ware.

The frenetic element definitely is, but it's frusterating to not know what to do and have the game finish before you really get it... oh well, I know it's supposed to be that way. Just saying that it makes it harder for people who haven't played it much to be competitve (though as I said you can definitely have fun)...

It's that one game where you are a guy who is like pushing along something with what looks like a broom. Only, and this MAY be a glitch, the guy is like on it's side, and way in FRONT of the ball or whatever. Took me forever to find out I was supposed to press A over and over to win that thing... Apparently, according to the description, I'm supposed to "sweep it into the goal". Not sure how that works from the position... Anyway, I guess I'm like sweeping debris out of the way so it can keep rolling into the target location? I dunno, but that is the game that makes the least sense...

Now the game where you move a 2D Wario into falling random clothes, THAT makes perfect sense! :D

The whole challenge of Wario Ware is figuring out in a split second what to do. There's no prep time, no time to get exceptionally good at the game. It's all about fast-thinking. That's it. Whether you play the game non-stop or have never touched a controller before, it can still be a tough race.

Yes, that's pretty much what I was saying. They make sense, at least after you've seen them a few times. Before that you have no clue, and the game doesn't help much.

You've never heard of curling? It's a sport. Played in Canada, among places. It's an ice sport. :) There's a big heavy stone and the player(s) use brushes on the ice in front of it to get it to move forward... you see the stone will go onto the clearer ice (I'm not sure if it's a slightly sloping ice surface or if physics is at play or something)... and get the stone into the goal circle. A very strange sport to be sure, but a real one (and an Olympic sport too). That's what that game is. :)

Ah, that is if you KNOW WHAT THE CONTROLS ARE. If that's true then you are absolutely right. But for people who DON'T know what the controls are for that game... well, think of the game with the Mario-ish guy in the sidescrolling fighting game. You have to mash A to hit the guy into the manhole. But the first time or two you play you'll naturally try to press forward, since forward is generally how you move forward... but the person who knows the game will know what to do and succeed.

This fact doesn't matter in the one-player game, as you just learn, but in multiplay it does.

Oh and, when is physics NOT at play? Anyway, that's a weird sport there... I'm wondering how on earth sweeping in front of a... large stone... makes it move forward as well... What, do they scrape away the ice so it falls down into the ditch created for it? Nah, they would have to dig deeper and deeper as they go along, that wouldn't work... Are you sure you aren't messing with me?

True. But the problem is that as you play the game more you know these things so you have a natural advantage in the game... a bit less so if you tell the others what buttons work in which minigames when they appear, though, perhaps... though a couple of seconds isn't much time to say much. :)

In "Pro Curling" the more you sweep the faster the stone goes, so you have to balance it out. If you don't sweep enough it won't make it to the goal, if you sweep too much it'll go past the goal.

GR, I figured out how to play it... I didn't need that, I needed the game to make sense, which ABF provided. Honestly, is what I say that confusing that people constantly mistake what I mean?

I got Touched and it's a lot of fun. The game is no more repetitive than the previous two Wario Wares; in fact, if it were just more minigames using the same controls it would have been much more repetitive (though still good). It's a lot of fun, a nice challenge, and the next best DS game after Mario 64, as well as the best example of the DS's capabilities. If Twist is better than this (and I've heard it really is) then we're in for a real treat.

So buy it!
