Quote:Yesterday it was reported by the Telegraph that Ubisoft were in negotiations to purchase Eidos but it has since changed, with Electronic Arts now looking to buy them. As well as Electronic Arts THQ are interested, but EA have placed a $300 million offer for the company.

It now seems that Ubisoft have reached "advanced stages of negotiation" with Codemasters. This could be good for Ubisoft as Codemasters have been known to make good games of certain genres, such as racing and sport, which Ubisoft have not.

Not much else is known about the negotiations between all the companies at present, but once something is known expect official press releases containing all the information.

Now it looks like EA is going to buy Eidos. Oh joy.

    What the...

I hope Ubi doesn't get too big. Then we probably won't get to see as many cool, risky games like BG&E.

I'm more worried about how big EA is becoming. It looks the gaming market is slowly becoming dominated by only a few large corporations and that's never a good thing.

Yeah, it really does suck. But with more developers leaving big publishers to form their own independant studios (like the guys from Mark of Kri-developer Sony San Diego who left to form Bottlerocket), it gives one hope.

Ubi's goal is to be like Infogrames or, preferably, EA, I believe...

    I won't call them Atari! They aren't! :)

Anyway, Atari is just what they call themselves. I believe that they actually are called Infogrames on top.

Yeah, the parent company is still called Infogrames but they're game division is called Atari. I still don't understand what they hoped to gain from that.

    Something French.

And they hoped to gain sales, obviously, by using one of the best known names in gaming...

Maybe so, but it's name means some different that what it did in the 80's. Now it's synoymous with bad business decisions and the Dark Ages of videogaming.
