So you're saying that since their parents don't care, we shouldn't either? That's ridiculous. As human beings we should always do everything we can to help those who don't have what we have. I highly doubt any of us have ever really been hungry. Our biggest needs are upgraded RAM and videogames. I'm not saying that we should destroy every good thing that makes us happy and live in poverty either. That's more like Buddhist thinking. What I am saying is that we should all do what little we can to make life better for others.
Now here is where your cynical side starts yelling at me to shut up and join the real world. You see the homeless guy on the street corner asking for money. You think he's just gonna blow it on alcohol anyway, so why bother. He could get a job if he wanted to. He's just a slacker. Maybe, I know there are people like that. And you know what? There are also real people who are hungry. Who can't just go get a job. How can we tell the difference? Most of the time you can't. So maybe you should help them out when you can. It's up to them what to do with it, not you. You've done as much as you can. Think about it.
Yes, these organizations such as Compassion International and World Vision who do child sponsorhips and the feeding programs do not use all the money for that. They do have rent for buildings and employees to pay and whatever other bills a company has. But they don't blow it on multi-million dollar houses. And I've never heard of one of these that says "every single penny goes to helping people". Oh, believe me I know of places that pretty much lay a guilt trip on you then swindle everything they can and take off with it, but it's wrong to think they are all like that. Some of these places actually just care about helping those less fortunate than themselves. They give their entire life to helping people. [sarcasm]It's a strange concept, I know.[/sarcasm]
I guess you are frustrated that the governments don't care about their people. It makes me angry too. But instead of giving up on them we need to try that much harder to make a difference. It's our responsibility. Most of these people are so hopeless, they don't know any better. But we do. As screwed up as this country is, we did get a lot of things right. And we have recieved the benefits of that for a long time. We need to do what we can, even if it ultimately doesn't make any difference. But it will. Even if we only help one person. I'm sure I sound like a naive little kid, but I'm not. I've been to third world countries and seen these people. And you know, at the time I couldn't handle it. I couldn't relate and I didn't want to be there. But now I'm glad I did go, because I know how blessed I am and I want to do what I can to bless others. Don't be so cynical- the world is a screwed up place thanks to us, but don't give up. There's always hope. Thanks to God.
