Quote:In the midst of touting 007: Everything or Nothing, Electronic Arts made a few mentions about a "top secret" Goldeneye 2 game that is in development. The news came from EA's President, John Riccitiello. "We are developing GoldenEye 2 (working title), a game where players become the ultimate villain in the Bond universe." Goldeneye 2 will be an adventure about the dark side of the 007 underworld. The main character is an agent who was going to join the MI6 but was dismissed for reckless brutality. He has since joined ranks with the super-villain Auric Goldfinger to gain control of the world's greatest criminal organization.
Some have been expecting this new Goldeneye to be the sequel to the fantasticly-popular Goldeneye 007 for Nintendo 64. Of course, it won't be handled by the same people as the original, as Rare now only develops for Xbox. It won't even be handled by Free Radical, the development team that split from some of former Rare employees and is now working with EA. Instead, EA's new Los Angeles studio will develop the title.
There's a lot of remaining questions about whether this truly is a sequel to the N64 hit, but we'll see what it's about at E3. Goldeneye 2 is for multiple consoles (not all?) and will be released during the 2004 Holiday season. They haven't specifically said GameCube will be getting it, but that'd be a travesty for sequel to the N64 game not to.
