When it comes to Ye Olde Melee Tournament, 7 hasn't been the lucky number. I started it up on the old UBB, which then crashed. I tried again in the Fallout Shelter, and nobody really joined. Then I made it in the vBulletin when it newly opened, and it became cyber-dust wen Weltall messed it up. So in the hopes that this one will survive, let's call this 7.5. Anyhow, the rules:

Pick a character and a name and a single item. All items will be turned off except for those that are chosen. Once we have enough entrants to hold a tournament, I'll put everybody in as Level 9 computer players, and then it's all up to luck. Well, that and how good your characters AI is. So let's begin, and good luck!

Current entrants:

EDEN - Normal Ganondorf - Cloaking Device
DJ - Normal Samus - Pokéball
PUNK - Blue Link - Motion Sensor Bomb
DLN - Black Link - Beam Sword
ARSE - Red Ganondorf - Party Ball
ABF - Green Zelda - Heart Container
PYRO - Black Samus - Home Run Bat
DEMN - Normal Ness - Super Scope
NIKB - Normal Link - Bob-Omb

Heh, it is obvious with it's buzz and it's devicelike nature that it's basically something from Star Wars, but Star Wars wasn't the first to have a sword made of pure energy. They were just probably the first to make it technological instead of magical.

Why does thinking about Gannondorf dancing with confetti make me tingle inside?

Green Zelda/Sheik, of course. Maybe I'll do better this time... if there was a way to make the comp stay in Sheik form, maybe I would...

Maybe the computer would do better if it stayed in Sheik form, but for skilled humans, leaving out half of Zelda's moves would be a major blow. Being able to switch back and forth at all the right times to reflect a blast, then unleash a flurry of quick attacks, is really key for her.

Its funny, my friend likes to play as Shiek, and never uses Zelda. I'm also fairly good with Zelda (but not nearly as good as I am with Ganondorf), and I usually don't use Shiek. Zelda has more power to her when she uses her magic attacks, and Shiek has blinding speed. It's a good matchup.

By the way, Black Falcon, you didn't pick an item.

Oh... an item. The 100% heart, I guess.

As for Zelda/Sheik, I NEVER use Zelda... I switch to Sheik at the start and stay that way. Zelda isn't very good, IMO... sure, she has stronger attacks (and some special moves that are actually worth using sometimes, once you figure out how to use them... Sheik's special moves are really weak...), but overall she's a lot worse. Not nearly as good as Sheik is.

Its not like I don't like slow characters (Ganondorf and Samus are my next favorite choices), but I just don't like the way Zelda, while having a powerful attack (compared to Sheik, at least), is slow and seems easier to beat than Sheik... probably because she's still weak, but as Zelda isn't fastmoving like Sheik is...

I agree that as a pure fighter, Sheik is the superior form, but it's the special attacks that make you want to switch during battle. The key, as I said, is to know WHEN to do the switch. Don't switch to Zelda during the middle of heavy combat, but rather exactly when a special move would be perfect. Zelda in standard combat is only rarely the better choice, like her throws for instance.

Anyway, if you always use Sheik, just hold down A before the battle begins. Then, you don't even have to switch at the start because Zelda will already be in her Sheik mode. That's the only way to use her during single button mode anyway.

I'm good with fast and slow characters alike. Ganondorf can actually be pretty nimble when controlled by skilled hands. His dodges are quick and great for sneaking around an unsuspecting opponents back. When he jumps off from hanging on a ledge he soars. Once you master him, he can be a deadly force.

In the middle, I can be very powerful with Dr. Mario (not Mario, the tiny differences between the two count, IMO). His Megavitamins are stronger, his super sheet has better length and is easier to reflect attacks with.

On the other end of the spectrum, I can cause quite a ruckus with the speedy Mr. Game & Watch. I don't use Judgment much, but Chef is good for repelling airborne attackers, and Oil Panic can be one helluva attack when timed right.

I'm quite skilled with pretty much every character, but Ganondorf is always my first choice. Right now I'm attempting to beat All-Star on Hard. Been trying for a couple weeks now and I keep getting my ass handed to me, or rather Ganondorfs ass. Any tips?
