Quote:Resident Evil 4, Capcom's newest entry in its long line of survival horror games, will be the most realistic game to date. Take Leon S. Kennedy into the depths of the Umbrella Corporation's main headquarters, past hoardes of familiar and some not-so-familiar enemies, into the terror which awaits. You will need to not only fight your enemies but also yourself as you come to grips with the reality set before you as you try to uncover the mysteries surrounding the Umbrella Corporation.

I watched this at school [we have cable internet] and RE4 looks VERY awesome. The graphics are just mind-blowing. Wait...if you're reading this that means you aren't downloading the trailer! What's wrong with you?! Hurry and download it!!

That's actually a higher-quality version of the E3 trailer. Same perspectives, same enemies, same shots, but still very pretty.

And 20XX is SO cool that even though Megaman X5 occured, according to the game itself, over a century after MMX4, the year is STILL 20XX :D.

No no, the galaxy is at peace after CENTURIES of fighting the reploid wars according to the story of X5. This certainly wasn't just days after X4. X6 occured only a few weeks after X5 though.

Oh yeah, right, X6 is the one that's right after the previous game... but I didn't remember some huge gap between X4 and X5... huh.

Well, the only way the reploid war could have been going on for "centuries" would be if it lasted for over 100, or actually 200 since it's plural, years. Still, checking the instruction booklet reveals it's the year 21XX rather than the game which says it's 20XX. Then again, the book uses the original Japanese names (which rock) as opposed to the game that uses the sucky US names (which suck).

Hmm, 21XX, is that year cooler than 20XX? Hard to say...
I'm surprised they didn't just go for "2XXX"...

    Hmm... *looks at X5 manual*

    Earth in Peril!

The year is 21XX. The galaxy is at peace after centuries of fighting the Reploid Wars...

    (etc)

That says that the wars lasted hundreds of years and that this happens after they are over, not that there was a peace of hundreds of years after the end of the wars, I believe... how could you interpret it differently?

Oh, and as for the Robot Masters (er, "Boss Characters"... doesn't have the same ring to it...), in the section with their profiles it uses the same names as in the game... Grizzly Slash, Squid Adler, Izzy Glow, Duff McWhalen, The Skiver, Axel the Red, Dark Dizzy, and Matt Rex.

Though, this is the fall '02 PC version, not the older PS2 one. :)

    It's a PS1 game, not PS2. Yours certainly is different I guess.

That first sentence is still accurate though. There were CENTURIES of fighting (never mentioned peace myself). That's the key word right there. Dr. Cain is long dead. I mean, Replois only existed since X and Zero were first dug up, and so they have been around for centuries. However, MMX1 2 and 3 all occur while Dr. Cain is around. MMX4 occurs, I'm not sure when. However, the basic problem is that the year they give doesn't match the time they say has passed.

X1, 2, and 3 are 20XX. 4, I don't know... 20XX? 5 is 'centuries' later (or maybe not? Are they saying that those wars in 1-4 took centuries and now they are over 100 years after X4 but not 'centuries' later?). X5 is 21XX... so no it doesn't make sense. But since when has the X story really made complete sense? :)

Yeah, I remember when Zero was just another Reploid, and then X3 announced he was actually dug up like X.

As I said, the story hasn't been either consistent or understandable... Zero has died what, five times? And each time they come up with a even more contrived reason to bring him back... I'm still waiting for what brilliant idea they came up with to explain how X7 happens when after X6 Zero supposedly dies and is in a capsule for hundreds of years... Rolleyes

Dies? No, just sweeping :D. Well, it would be easy enough to just say he was taken out for a bit and then went back to sleep at the end. They did it with Castlevania all the time. :D

Plus, when you're talking about machines and programs, it's VERY hard to kill ANY of them for good. Look at Sigma, he finally just went and manifested himself as a self-sustaining hologram. How's THAT for contrived?

Okay, not dies, 'is disabled'... and if you've played Megaman Zero, you'd know that Zero was in a capsule or something for a long time... and since X6 ended like that it seemed logical... but no, he's in X7. If you can't make a consistent story why bother, Capcom... :)

Yes I've played MMZ. That's why I already KNEW what you just SAID! I even gave a reason why he's free. He's taken out of the capsule for THIS game, then goes RIGHT back and THEN sleeps for the centuries needed for the story to still be accurate. It's just like Castlevania's thing :D.

I really don't think Capcom cares about the storyline or characters of MM anymore. There's a giant robot onion for a boss in Mega Man X7. A giant robot onion.

DJ... you may have understood my point, but your "explanantion" makes no sense. They take him out and then put him back in? But I thought the whole POINT was that Zero was lost or something...

Maybe they don't take him out, maybe he awakens on his own and then goes away and no one knows where at the end. That WOULD be just like Castlevania.

    To OB1: That's right.

Yeah, don't see what the problem is. They had robot clowns and so on. An onion actually seems to work as well as any of that to me. Sure it's lame, but what isn't? Robot dogs sure are silly if you ask me. It's just pure sillyness. Sit Aibo sit... good boy. It's like "ooh, a boy and his dog fighting to save the world". I mean, they even had a giant metal coin robot, and many different giant ball robots. This is just another giant orb robot thing. Robot wolves are cool though.

Uh, a lot of the smilies died... they were on some other server, not ours, and the links all broke. OB1 mentioned it a while back... but we're all too lazy to do anything about it. :)

Why were they all on other servers? Well, the BBHood one I added myself, so it was (and likely still is) on this server. Wait, did I even add it or just post it one day and forget to add it? Probably the latter. Well, all the others I myself added still work anyway.

New rule: From now on, when someone adds a smily, it needs to be uploaded to our site and linked here.
