    Here are the rules:
    1. The children are ordinary 5 year olds, race is mixed, and gender is evenly split.
    2. You are in an empty lot or basketball court.
    3. No weapons allowed
    4. The five year olds get one day of combat training for using their numbers against you.
    5. You get one hour of training in fighting a mob.
    6. Children knocked unconscious lose, if you are knocked unconscious you lose.
    7. The children will show NO fear!

    How many can you defeat?!

Well, what if the children use the hyperbolic time chamber, where you get a year's worth of training in a day?

You know, the thing about fighting is, you break the rules if it means you win. So, I'd fire a nuclear warhead 3 feet from my face. I win. Well, if I survive I win.

Five year olds can be tough little buggers when they set their mind to it, especially if a bunch of them attacked you at once.

I imagine myself in the last scene of the movie "The One" with Jet Li. On a hill with an infinite amount of 5 year olds coming at me.

Jet Li lost that battle and you know it.

    ...

So does that mean the universe eventually got blowed up? I really didn't get why he had to actually KILL them to get the power. I mean, he SHOT one, so like actually TOUCHING someone when they die doesn't work, and "fault" is just in the mind, the universe isn't going to keep track of WHO was responsible for someone's death. That whole movie just wasn't that good. Too much of a stretch to be believable. I can suspend disbelief well enough to enjoy a movie, but the story has to at least TRY to make some sense.

Nah, the universe is fine, and can't be destroyed since the third Keen series, which was going to be named Commander Keen: The Universe is Toast, was never made... so it'll just be in flux until it is. Think of it like the infinite amount of time you have in RPGs between tasks in a supposedly time-critical mission...

Yeah, I love that. I guess it applies to PC RPGs as well.

As a general rule, you ONLY need to worry about time if an actual timer appears in the corner of the screen, or to a lesser extent, if they say you only have a specifically stated amount of time which can actually reasonably occur in-game.

Have you seen the trailer for Jet Li's new movie "Unleashed"? It looks like it'll be pretty cool.

Yes, though I hate the US title. Danny the Dog was so much better.

Anyhow, the movie is going to be awesome. It came out in France months ago and got terrific reviews, and it looks like it'll be Jet's first good Western movie. I can't wait!

Most of the main architects of this movie were French. So why can't Americans make good Jet Li movies like that?

For the same reason they decided to give it the generic name "Unleashed" over here.

Oh that is SUCH a relief. I was sure I was going to be attacked for thinking that movie was aweful...

Why? Most of the American movies with HK actors aren't that good, there are some exceptions of course, but on the whole that's how it is. At the very least their American movies are nowhere near as good as their HK ones. That's one of the reasons I'm glad Stephen Chow hasn't come to America yet, it just wouldn't feel right, among other reasons.

I don't know about the latter (unless you just mean the former without an onscreen timer all the time)... generally, unless they specifically tell you there's a time limit (like in OoT where "you have X time to get this to place Y" and when time runs out it tells you so), you're free to do whatever you want and take as long as you wish.

Yeah that's about what I meant. Like "escape the reactor before the bomb goes off!" followed by a timer means "run". "Escape in 5 minutes" without a timer means "run!". However, just saying "escape before the bomb goes off" without either a timer or specifically stating a time limit means "pfft, just spend the next few hours levelling up, you'll tune out the alarms eventually".

This is also true of all sorts of other "time critical" missions. For example "We have to hurry to get to the town of Krigdaria and rescue Marin before they get on the ship!". Heh, sure I'd hurry right there except there's like 30 side quests I can only do at this point, so nuts to you! She'll be fine...

Heh, Wind Waker was like that the ENTIRE GAME. I kinda didn't like how the boat RUSHED you to do everything. Previous games didn't have so much of a rushy feeling. Every single thing I needed to do, I had to "hurry!" and do it then. If I actually played "in character" to really get into the game, I NEVER would have accomplished any side quests :D. So, I completely forget the main quest between main objectives to mess around with side quests for weeks on end (in game weeks :D).

There were a few sidequests that actually were time-critical, like the really stupid one with bringing water to those trees so you could get into that room or whatever... I never bothered with that...

Let me tell you one thing though: they'll think twice next time before they ask ME where the bathroom is!! Link
