An Ism is the ULTIMATE word to describe a fighting style, THANK YOU CAPCOM! ISM ISM ISM ISM! I HATE THAT THE WORD ISM EXISTS! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGG!

So yeah, this article, which Weltall will eat up, basically states that American horror is horrible. Sure, they don't say that outright, but you can FEEL the contempt for our art in the very translator's voice.

I must agree, leaving things totally unexplained is the best way to freak someone out. That said, Silent Hill 1 didn't do that. By the end, you figure out EXACTLY what's been going on in that town. Sorta messes up SH2 when you realize that it all actually has an explanation...

Just compare Resident Evil the game to Resident Evil the movie. The game is really cheesy and relies a lot of cheap thrills, but the movie makes it look like something that H.P. Lovecraft would have made.

I'm not sure what point you are agreeing with or countering there...

...You ARE insulting the movie right?

Uh... he should be, but Lovecraft was a good author so I'm not so sure...

Yeah, I am. My point was that American horror movies of late aren't very good at all. I was using Resident Evil [the game] to show an already cheesy and cheap horror game that was actually made MORE cheesy and cheap and dumb by Americans film-makers. How did that even happen?! Now, The Thing, that's an example of American horror at its finest.

The Thing? That's swamp thing right? THAT was horror at it's finest?

Eh, oh well. Horror has been dull and uninteresting since... forever... Honestly, from the old "an alien is attacking us slowly in an awkward suit!" to "He's killing us... IN OUR DREAMS!" to "He's trying to make us kill OURSELVES!"... it's all stupid.

Interesting synopsis, but it sounds cheesy... You saying they managed to use occlusion at it's utmost to give this some real... scary.... ism...?

It's not cheesy at all. Well, some of the effects might be considered "cheesy" by todays standards, but it does hold up fairly well. It definitely up there with Alien in the claustrophobia-horror genre.

The Resident Evil movie (first one) has more story and more depth than the first Resident Evil that came out on PSX and Sega Saturn. Remember the FMV that RE had? gah.... horrible. Now that was horror at it's worst.

The Thing is absolutley one of the best horror movies out there, but dont forget the entire "...of the Dead" series of films going all the way back to Night of the living Dead to Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, etc. And of course films like The Shining... that movie can still scare me.

The fact is, Resident Evil wouldn't exist without American horror and action films, the entire game series is based on multiple films. Especially Alien, Terminator and the "dead" series.
