Slash? He said you will not SASS back at this council, which is a lot funnier because that's like an old fasioned way to describe when kids talk back to their parents.

Well, a dragon named Trogdor burninates the peasant cottages. A peasant named Rather Dashing then goes on an adventure to slay him. Let me find links to all the cartoons that explain the origins of this concept:

    Strong Bad Email #58: dragon
    http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail58.html
Strong Bad draws a dragon. Trogdor is born!

    Arcade Game
    http://www.homestarrunner.com/arcadegame.html
Instead of answering an email like Strong Bad is supposed to do every week, Strong Bad, Strong Mad, and The Cheat are hanging out in the basement playing the new Trogdor game. At the end of the cartoon, you are given the option of playing the game.

    Trogdor
    http://www.homestarrunner.com/trogdor.html
Or, you can just click this link to skip over the cartoon and get straight to the game. In this game, you play as Trogdor and have to stomp the peasants, then burninate the cottages, but watch out for knights and archers!

    Peasant's Quest Preview
    http://www.homestarrunner.com/pqtrailer.html
A preview of the sequal to Trogdor: Peasant's Quest! (The video game, not the movie.) Rather Dashing, one of the peasants whose cottage was burninated by Trogdor, is out for revenge!

    Peasant's Quest

The actual game! It's a text adventure, and if you have cookies enabled on your web browser, you can save your game and continue later! w00t!

Strong Bad Email #110: for kids
    http://www.homestarrunner.com/sbemail110.html
Before answering an email, we see Strong Bad playing Peasant's Quest. This isn't really a part of the continuity of Trogdor, but it is one of the cartoons featuring a reference to the series.

    Snowglobe
    http://www.homestarrunner.com/xmas04_pq.html
This is nothing more than a Peasant's Quest holiday greeting for Decemberween of '04!

    Peasant's Quest Movie Trailer
    http://www.homestarrunner.com/filmstyle.html
Finally, we have the preview you just watched in this thread for the Peasant's Quest movie. (Which isn't really coming out, it's just a joke.) Choose from three different sizes: jhonka, kerrek, or TROGDOR!!!!

Yeah... so I hope that clears things up, as opposed to making things more confusing for you.

    Of course it's a joke!

    ...

Wait a second... I was convinced the Peasent's Quest game preview was only a joke, then they actually made a (Rather Short) real game.

Ya know, they seem to almost have the whole storyline acted out rather well in that preview... Nah, they said it would come to theaters, and there is no way a theater is letting that into it... it's too clever.

It's weird, in the Trogdor game, Trogdor isn't very indestructible at all, being sworded and arrowed constantly. In PQ, suddenly he's completely indestructible. I found that out because... he told me he was... wait a sec... Oh yeah, dragdons always think they can't be killed. At least, Smaug thought so. I will say this, Dashing THREW the stupid sword! Anyone who throws swords deserves whatever happens next. Maybe if instead of throwing it, he sworded with it, he coulda won.

DJ, it is very bad netiquette to automatically load a 10MB file off another site. The H*R site was down a whole day because of people doing stuff like that. The server was absolutely hammered. Please just post a link to the html file instead. Also, it can get "rather annoying" (haha :) ) opening a bunch of tabs at once and then to hear sounds coming from an unknown tab. Plus you can't easily stop Flash videos, which is annoying when you wanna revisit the thread.

    Thankya kindly.

Yes, I absolutely agree. It's really annoying to open all of the threads with new posts in them and then hear sound coming out, drowning out or messing up whatever else you're listening to... and then having to go through them one at a time to find the culprit... it's not good. And listening to the same movies over and over as you go back the thread isn't fun either. Definitely it is much, MUCH better to just link the film. I've said it before (and been ignored), but why not try again...

As you very well know ABF, it's the only way to get people to see it. I think I'll alter the code so people can pause it though... There, now you can just right click and click on "forward" or "back" and you'll pause it.

And it's bad manners since when geoboy?

It steals their bandwidth, DJ... and it may be the best way to get people to watch it, but it's incredibly annoying each time after the first that I enter the thread.

"steals"? I don't get that mindset... I mean I've seen weird broken image replacers from sites that say things like that. Do you mean people get to see it without seeing the advertising? Don't worry about that, homsar doesn't have advertising on their site.

Also, you can always just turn the flash plugin back off by clicking that button.. oh yeah, you don't HAVE that button do you? :D

Really though, why don't browsers let you set up buttons right on the button bar that let you instantly activate and deactivate whatever plugins you put up there? Avant Browser added that itself, which is nice, but it should be a feature of all browsers, for this very reason. I myself always keep my flash plugin turned off unless there's one I want to see, basically because I was getting sick of all the flash advertising all over what USED to be great sites (IGN for example, though I really don't go there any more).

DJ, ever heard of bandwidth? Sites measure traffic by bandwidth. They can only handle so much at once. Downloading movies uses up lots of bandwidth... each time someone opens this page and downloads that film it takes 10mb of their bandwidth. This is okay if they have a great server which can handle lots of traffic, but if too many people are downloading, or if there are just too many people trying to access a website, it'll go down because of too much traffic... which is not polite.

Now, I've been linking a image in my sig that's on the MLB website for years here. I know. I just assume that they have the bandwidth that they wouldn't care. :D

I have a Pause Flash button on my toolbar, which is set up like a bookmark, except instead of a URL, it has the code to pause a Flash cartoon. Very useful when I'm trying to watch a new Strong Bad Email and my dog scratches on my door or my dad starts calling out to me about something. I don't get much peace around here. Disgust

I guess, though honestly I will not do anything different. If it's up then we can pretty much do as we wish as far as linking. By the way, if it pops up all the time very quickly, no, you aren't downloading it from their site each and every time. You are viewing it directly from your hard drive, in your internet cache. Their site isn't affected.

It is affected the first time and then every time a new viewer enters the thread! And in this case every time that happens 10mb of their bandwidth is used up. And Homestar is very popular... I'm sure a lot of forums and stuff direct linked the file. The obvious result is what geoboy said happened -- the site getting overloaded and going down.

As for stopping flash movies... you can (right click and unclick 'play'), but it's annoying... why oh why can't Homestar do what most all flash movie makers do and have a 'Play' button menu when the flash loads? Why have the movie start as soon as it loads? It's annoying! And most flash movies do it better!

It'd be nice if it had one of those bars on the top or bottom with a play button and a pause button. Kinda like the Flashes on Legendary Frog. And as ABF said, a play button menu would be nice.

    I agree there.

Oh and, if people are viewing the thread and watching it, then all that means is another viewer of it just viewing it a different way than going to that site. That's what they want, so what does it matter how they end up seeing it? Of course, mirroring is nice.

Because they are all jerks :D.

Doesn't matter, I do it anyway. Unless they specifically tell me not to, I don't see how it's rude to assume they want me to.

Half the sigs here are image links anyway.

Yeah. DJ, you know a lot about computers... it's surprising to see you not only so ignorant about this but refusing to understand what has been so well explained!

"I know it's wrong and understand why but I don't care" is not a good philosophy.
