I think that's the most civil dialogue OB1 and ABF have ever exchanged in their lives.

    Oh wait, it's fiction! :D

Yeah, but it's all going downhill at the end. What you don't see is OB1 becoming angry when ABF refuses to help him get a home loan and then ABF says something about books being better than home loans, then things get messy...

Of course there isn't. That's how some of the best shows are made, by copying other people or parodying them.

If no one copied anyone else we'd never have gotten Star Wars or Indiana Jones!

Correction: Sky Captain is a copy of old serials, right down to the letter. Star Wars and Indiana Jones were inspired by old serials, among many other things. You see Sky Captain and instantly think Flash Gordon, but you don't instantly think The Hidden Fortress when you see Star Wars, or Gunga Din when you see Indiana Jones (well, maybe you do if you like old movies). Star Wars in particular was inspired by so many different things yet still retained a very unique identity of its own.

Sky Captain is great, though! Awesome movie.

They might not have done it down to the letter, but to an extent they copied the styles of previous shows.

Quote:Sky Captain is great, though! Awesome movie.

Yes, it is. I wish companies would make more movies with this kind of style, not a lot though, just a few more.

You ever seen Flash Gordon and the other scifi serials Sky Captain copied? It's an almost exact replica, in a good way.

Sky Captain was a pretty good movie... I liked it. I haven't seen Flash Gordon, but I've seen a little old sci-fi, as well as some other modern stuff that uses that 20's or 30's style, and have read some sci-fi either from that period or in parody of that stuff so I know the style. Sky Captain definitely fit it perfectly... well except that unlike that old stuff Sky Captain has good special effects. Isn't that kind of sci-fi film supposed to have visible wires and stuff? :)

Huh, whaddya know. I saw it at my college theater almost two years ago. How odd. It's out next week though.

And yes Metropolis is the first (and one of the best) scifi movies ever. Everything from Star Wars to Bladerunner took something from that film, much like all of Friz Lang's work.

The anime 'Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis is recent (mid/late '90s), but was quite good I thought... and obviously strongly influenced by Metropolis, by Fritz Lang. :)

Have you seen Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis, GR?

I don't need to buy either one, the movie rental places in town have both of them...

Yeah... so you have it but haven't watched it? After criticizing me for having and not watching 2001? Pretty similar thing there, GR... maybe not quite the same as not watching 2001, but similar. :)
