*expects no one to raise their hand*

    Quote:Resident Evil 4 coming to PS2
Formerly GameCube-exclusive entry in Capcom's survival horror series will appear on PlayStation 2 in 2005.

Capcom announced today that the long-awaited follow-up to its popular survival horror franchise, originally planned to appear only on the GameCube console, is also headed to Sony's PlayStation2.

The PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 is currently slated to be released at the end of 2005 in Japan, the US, and Europe. The GameCube version is still scheduled for a January 2005 release in the US and Japan, followed by a spring release in Europe.

In a statement released today, Capcom said that the decision to make Resident Evil 4 go cross-platform was based on requests from fans worldwide, market considerations, and shareholder requests. The statement made mention of the fact that each version of the game will be developed to take advantage of the strengths of the respective platform.

In September 2001, Capcom held a press conference in Tokyo to announce that the Resident Evil series would thereafter be released exclusively for the Nintendo GameCube. Capcom first produced a visually overhauled remake of the very first Resident Evil title, which was originally released for the PlayStation in the mid '90s, and followed suit with a brand-new prequel called Resident Evil 0 and ports of Resident Evil 2, 3, and Code: Veronica.

But as soon as the deal was cemented between Capcom and Nintendo, cracks started to appear. Early in 2002, Capcom announced that an online Resident Evil title, Resident Evil: Outbreak, was exclusively headed to the PlayStation 2. Later that year, the publisher seemed to reaffirm its relationship with Nintendo when it announced four more GameCube-exclusive games alongside Resident Evil 4. Then one of them, Dead Phoenix, was canceled, and PS2 versions of two of the other games, Viewtiful Joe and Killer 7, were subsequently announced. Nevertheless, if Capcom sticks to the current release plan, Resident Evil 4 will remain exclusive to the GameCube hardware for roughly one year.

Geez, do those fucks have any dignity to speak of? They've repeatly said "Only Gamecube! Only Gamecube! No PS2!!!" for over a year now, and I was actually starting to believe the lying bastards.

I figured they would at least wait until after the GameCube version was released to announce this.

Doesn't matter, it still means that the game will fail to do much for Cube sales I bet... I mean, sure, it's 10, 11 months later, but it's coming so only the impatient would get a Cube just for the game... sure, the Cube isn't exactly keeping up, but every event like this hurts a little more. Is Nintendo making any effort at all to save its third-party relationships?

I suspect this was done against Mikami's wishes. Seeing as how he seems to hate the PS2. I bet a diffrent team will have to do the porting. Could end up crappy looking.

I hope the PS2 versions ends up looking terrible and no one buys it and Capcom loses a bunch of money and then goes out of business and is bought up by Nintendo for a pitance and then Nintendo laughs at them and spits on them and then they have to commit sepuku to redeem themselves.

the PS2 version will look like absolute ass and the only way they're gonna be able to get sales close to the GC version is by including dante as a playable character. and that's just the stupidest thing i ever heard of.

To make matters worse I bet RE4 will get delayed to March or something. 11 days after Christmas? Doesn't make any sense.

Does Nintendo have ANY more developers working on projects only for them?

First Rare, then Silicon Knights, now Capcom. It's despicabibble.

Seriously, how many GameCube exclusive games are there that WEREN'T made by Nintendo?

Let's go through my collection and deduce.

    Okay...we'll start with Cube exclusives...

Melee, Rogue Leader, Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, Super Monkey Ball, REMake, Eternal Darkness, Mario Sunshine, Animal Crossing, Starfox Adventures, RE: Zero, Metroid Prime, Cubivore, Wave Race, Wind Waker, F-Zero, Mario Kart, MGS: TS, Wario Ware, Pikmin 2, and Paper Mario

    *whew*

Okay, out of those, let's take out the Ninty titles. I'm going to include remakes of older games to be GENEROUS.

Rogue Leader, Super Monkey Ball, REmake, Eternal Darkness, RE: Zero, Cubivore, MGS: TS. I don't know whether or not to include F-Zero here...ah, why not?

Okay. Let's see here. I have a total of 33 GameCube games. Of them, 21 are exclusives, and a mere 8 are not Nintendo.

That is a pitiful number. I'm not sure if I proved anything with this little math test, but it does show how few developers are making solely for the Cube. It's a sad state of affairs.

The good news is Baiton Kaitos is coming out in just a few short weeks. *wonders how long it'll be before Namco ports that to the PS2 as well*

good luck trying to get that game running on the PS2. the backgrounds are all FMV with super high-res characters on them. the load times between frames would be horrid on the PS2.

And most of the developers who DID make those exclusives aren't making Cube games anymore... or they're developing for all platforms.

Oh, I'm sure you forgot some, EM. How about Tales of Symphonia? :) But still, it is definitely a small number. And Nintendo just doesn't seem to be doing much to change that.

Tales of Symphonia is coming out for the PS2 pretty soon. And Monkey Ball Deluxe (a port of MB 1 & 2 plus all-new levels) is coming out for the PS2 and XB, but not the cube. What a great gesture by Sega, considering that Monkey Ball did better on the GC than almost any other game Sega has published in the past four years.

How about Baten Kaitos? Does it depend on how well it sells?

Yeah, isn't Sega so nice... publishing an improved collection of the Monkey Ball games on the other two consoles but not the one that they actually were sold on...

Yeah, Sega deserves the crappy sales they get. Their best-selling titles over the past three years have been GC games (Monkey Ball 1 & 2, the Sonic titles), yet they still support the PS2 and XB more. Idiots.

Their marketing people are not very smart, that is for sure. About the only good decision they have made in recent times is the $20 price for their sports games...

Hmm...the girl on the left bears no resemblence to anyone I know...nor the one on the right. However, the guy in the background...I think he had one too many in-flight cocktails. He looks a tad...overexcited.

the one on the left is like, my friends evil twin or something...the one on the right looks familiar, but i can't place where i would have seen her or someone similar looking to her...the guy in the background looks just like the guy who always comes to rescue me in my dreams...right before the sodomy.

LOL, seriously though the more I look at that picture the harder it is for me to stop laughing so damn much. Just thinking about it for a bit... Lol That guy doesn't look like he meant any harm, he just did what anybody would do when a camera is about to snap a picture. Rofl Hahaha, oh man... and I bet those girls didn't notice it until they developed the film, unless they had a digital camera. Hahaha....

    I needed a good laugh today. :D

but you don't know where the picture came from?

that's wild that a random picture seems to contain someone that i once knew.
