I love the Goemon series, or at least the two games that I played on the N64, so when I heard that it was coming out for the DS I got super-excited. I was actually looking forward to just a port of the first (or even second) N64 game, but this new 2D one looks gorgeous so I'm very happy (maybe they'll do ports of the N64 games in the future). Hopefully it'll come out in the U.S. very soon after launch. Screens from the GA forums again:

Yeah, the Goemon games are always awesome. I know I'll be getting this one.

Take a look at this screen:

It looks like Imact(u!) and that rock are 3d models, as well as Goemon and the NPCs in all of the shots. Notice how the textures don't suck. Hmm...

They'd better release that over here! It looks great! And Goemon on N64 was really good...

Did you play much of the first one? It's not as instantly fun as the second game, but it's a great Mario 64/OoT style adventure.

No. I'd buy it if I saw it, but I haven't seen it for sale since I realized that I'd like to get it (like, in the last few years)... GGA I only saw for sale twice. And those two times were a few years apart... I felt annoyed at myself for a long time after not buying it that first time...

I found the first Goemon for real cheap at Blockbuster a couple years ago. I had rented it a bunch of times earlier than that.

Oh, I'd rented GGA twice, which is why I knew it was good... and why I didn't buy it the first time I saw it. But it wasn't that much later that I really decided that I wanted to own the game... and now that I finally do I know it was worth it because it's a really good game.

The side-scroller was the better of the two games, but the other one had a hilarious intro [complete with song!].

The side-scroller was the easiest one to pick up and play and was the most pure fun, but the first one was longer and more fulfilling. Think of GGA as Mario 3 and MNSG as a Mario 64/OoT hybrid.

GGA lasts a long time if you try to not just beat it but get all of the tickets and then buy the hidden costumes...

That's the same with most sidescrollers.

Newer ones perhaps, yes... not old ones of course.

What are you talking about? Replaying old sidescrollers to unlock new crap was the definition of replay value back in the day.

No, in old ones it was usually just about score, not about collecting things... I'd say that trend really didn't fully get started until Mario 64.

Collecting crap may be overused nowadays, but there were better ways to encourage replay in older side-scrollers.

Mario World: Play through the levels several times over to find new levels and areas.

Sonic 3/Knuckles: Play through the levels several times over to find all of the bonus levels and get all of the chaos emeralds, which unlock a better ending and playable Hyper Sonic, Tales, and Knuckles.

Yoshi's Island: Play through the levels several times over to find all of the keys/hidden items to unlock all sorts of stuff.

Mystical Ninja (SNES): Same as GGA.

Okay, that's true... but it became much more prevalent, and much more common, once 3d platformers hit.

You're talking about mindless collecting, which became a very bad thing.

Older ones generally have less mindless collecting. :) You are right that sometimes it's there though... I know I thought that it was a bit too much in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

S&K? What are you talking about? You didn't have to backtrack through levels numerous times to find crap. You're thinking of Sonic Advance 3.

It's not DS, but it is Goemon (Konami is releasing the first two Super Famicom Goemon games together for the GBA in Japan)... I wish that would come out over here, but I'm not holding my breath...
