Awesome Nintendo XP desktop themes

You can view a gallery of them over here, but unfortunately you need to register a Nintendo game in Europe in order to get them... legally. If anyone wants to know how you can still get them if you don't live in Europe, just send me an e-mail. Right now I'm using the very cool Zelda theme, but there are tons to choose from.

I don't know. To me that theme looks very Windows 98. It doesn't really have the smoothness of XP if you know what I mean. If I sound like a raving idiot just ignore me.

Honestly I don't even use themes. They use more memory than just using the featureless 98 style theme. Probably doesn't really help anything, but no reason to waste memory needlessly.

Yes it is. I didn't say NT is bad, far from it. 2000 is just the worst incarnation of it. It's the Windows ME of NT.

Actually lazy, the last one doesn't seem sincere at all, it seems like it's made of retarded. Aside from that, perfect analysis of online socialitisms plus bacon fat. However, in answer to your query, that theme is now MS's responsibility to create. Thus, virus bomb them!

Yes, 2k isn't nearly as bad as ME, being based on NT. It's just a pretty bad incarnation of NT. XP is nice, but all those graphical extras are only there to suck up resources. I'm fairly certain that when a game is playing, XP politely stops all those extra graphical whatnots to allow for maximum goodness, but the part that's not certain happens to be the part that remembers that MS made ME. Anyway, I dunno, I might just turn on the graphical effects if I find out for certain it's not dragging down my system, even in the slightest, when I'm playing a full screen game.

I'm used to standard Windows. That 'curvy' look of XP, with the many colors and more 'liquid' look... it'd take getting used to for sure! I've been using 95/98/ME for a very long time now... maybe I'd change it to look like these do. :)

And I do NOT want XP. Not until DOSBox can run every DOS game I own at full speed and that's probably years off.

Tried out DOSBox. Doesn't work that well just yet... Speed changing is also too iffy. What I'd like is a nice slowdown algorythm that only targets processes that aren't already speed set to start with (if there's a reliable way to detect that), so that when I slow down the gameplay to playable levels in old games, I don't end up making the stuff that's already at a fixed speed suddenly run at a crawl of a crawl like the startup screen fading to black. I'll switch to DosBox when it can play all my old DOS games. Until then, I'll be using my old Win98SE install. Problem is, new drivers, as of now, no longer have 98SE support even through ME. You should keep this in mind ABF.

Anyway, unless the next incarnation of Windows manages truly superior backwards compatibility (not likely), I'm afraid I may end up with but one option, to build an old computer with old parts myself for playing my old games... old... Also, one even OLDER computer with SUPER old powers to perfectly play the REALLY old games that run way too fast on even the old computer I was first talking about making. Annoying though, since one of the PC's main draws is backwards compatibility.

DOSBox works for some games. I've gotten a few of my DOS games, mainly older ones, to run perfectly. Most, as I said, do not, though...

But it got the voice-announcer to work in Hardball III. That's probably my greatest success... most games of course run in WinME, but some (like HB3's voice acting, or the voice acting in MM: DOTT/(I assume)Indy:Fate) don't... what I've found so far is some of the games that I wish I could run (ie don't work in WinME) just run too slow. Like King's Quest V... I have the CD version. Can't really play it. In WinME the DOS version doesn't work and the Win3.1 one doesn't either - "incompatible display driver". And in DOSBox you have to put it between about 300 and 600 cycles to get it to run at a playable speed and then it runs slower than is fun... but speed it up much and it doesn't work right... and of course many other newer (and plenty of older) DOS titles are hopelessly slow.

Oh, remember two things. Clock cycles and frameskip. Clock is CTRL-F11/12 and Frameskip is CTRL-F-somethings... check the readme... you can see both numbers on the window, assuming you are playing in windowed mode. I recommend staying in windowed mode until you get it at a playable speed (if you can), so you can see those numbers...

Oh, and what do you mean about drivers? Drivers not supporting Win98SE? So? I have ME and don't exactly have the newest drivers... my soundcard drivers (SBLive) are the Win98 drivers that came with the thing (with my computer)... had to 'downgrade' from the default winme drivers because the ME one don't have the dos emulation... and my video driver (NVidia) is quite out of date. And I also don't care much because last time I tried the newest one (months ago, true) my comp froze about every five minuites...

Oh, and better backwards compatibility from MS is a hopeless wish.

Oh, display driver error for KQ5 eh? Here's the problem. You aren't running the game in 256 colors with 640x480 res. You have to use the quickres icon (I always have it on in my old Windows setup, well, you don't HAVE to use it, but it's quicker) to change it to it every time you want to play that game.

I thought I tried that... I could try again, maybe... but the error doesn't say 'color depth', it says 'driver incompatible'... the Windows versions of EcoQuest and KQVII (the other two Sierra adventures with Windows modes that I have) work fine, but that one doesn't run.

That's the error message KQ5 uses. It was a time before high res...

KQ7 is really meant to be run at 256 colors as well. Some stuff may get all scrambled at higher color depths.

I hate early Win95 games... if they run DOS titles are much better. Norse by Norsewest for instance... to be able to use fullscreen mode you've got to be in 256 colors (and maybe 640x480, but I can't remember exactly)... and I haven't found a way to get EcoQuest Win or KQ7 Win to run in fullscreen! They appear stuck in 640x480 windows -- EXTREMELY aggrivating.
