First you'll need the xvid codec which can be found here.

And here is the video: http://www.xboxyde.com/news_529_en.html

Very cool stuff, but from an old build. A newer video will be released shortly.

That's really cool! I wish more developers would release interview videos like this. I found the part of the interview about marriage at the end of the video very interesting. It looks like a ton of work has gone into the social complexities of this game which will make things very interesting.

It's things like that that will make Fable one greatest RPGs ever [assuming everything comes together in the end].

I'm not downloading a new codec and cluttering up my registry every single time some idiot company wants to push a new video standard on me. They want me to watch their commerical, they make it avi.

    It <i>is</i> an .AVI

And I have you know, XviD is HANDS DOWN the BEST video codec to date. It's also open source and quite efficient. There will be no clogging of the registry. All it does is copy a few .DLL files into your Windows directory and writes a few registry entries, then you can easily view this movie in Windows Media Player or whatever.

Best to date? Well that may be so, but they all say that. Honestly I stopped getting codecs about a year ago when a new one came out every single month. Why can't they just stick with a few standards? Images do, sound does, why not movie files?

Just took a look, I can't even download it without something called "bittorrent". Ugh, I'm so sick of all this required bloatware.

I have the Nimo Codec, which is a packet that contains all the major codecs, and it works really well.

    Bittorrent isn't a codec, it's some kind of file-sharing software, I think.

I just don't like system clutter. It's just something I've learned to do to prevent my system ending up like everyone else's I know (slowly getting slower and slower and more unstable as more and more useless junk is set to run in the background). I suppose it can get me a little overprotective and suspicious of a lot of stuff. Don't get me wrong, software progress is all well and good. I tend to update all my software on a regular basis. However, all these codecs running around all over the place are rather pointless. Just a few decent ones, or maybe just one open sourced one, is all that there should be. I shouldn't have to download a new codec every single time I want to watch a video. Yeesh, classic avi was good enough, especially since the only thing I ever even watch is demo movies of games, and sometimes movie commercials. It's not something that needs all this clutter. It's a bunch of 2d images and sound and none of it's rendered. Why all the hasle?

Jeez, you don't even have bittorent? That is a wonderful, super-fast piece of downloading software. Very fast.

Well it's your loss. The Fable video is really cool.

There's a million of those download managers out there, and I don't plan on getting each and every one for all the various files there are out there. Games themselves fortunatly don't require a lot of bloatware to run. The exception is the ENTIRE MYST SERIES, which is stupid enough to actually REQUIRE Quicktime to be installed, and they have to install it themselves too or it's not setup correctly! They should just have their own decompression codec for it's own video in the code itself...

No, THAT is comedy gold! Look, we are trying to say that generally a man in woman's clothing is HILARIOUS, but when YOU do it, SIMPLY because you are doing it, it's just wrong.

Awesome! Will everyone in the game world try to get the same kind of undies if you become popular?

I want to wear a nice satin dress, a mohawk, a big red bandanna, and spikey shoes and gloves.

How you gonna hold a sword with your feet? It doesn't have a grasping action! Then, you drop it and skewer yourself!

xboxadvanced.com has a 20 new videos up from GDC (as well as new screens), and I have to say that my worst fears have come true. I was expecting huge, walk-anywhere environments like Morrowind's, but instead it looks like it'll be closed off and in sections like Zelda or KOTOR. That, along with the ability to have an incredible amount of customization for your character, is one of the main things that drew me to this game, and with that aspect gone... it's no longer my most-anticipated game of the year. I'm still really looking forward to it, but the devs turned their back on the "there are no backgrounds, you can go anywhere" comment from so many years ago and that is a massive dissapointment for me. I think I'm going to find a nice corner and cry for a little while. :(

Judging just by those videos, yes it would seem it's all walled in now like most of today's 3D adventures and RPGs. The towns, well those were obviously going to be walled in, they are towns after all. However, watching the wandering in the wilds, it was rather disappointing. The forest had the standard wall made of trees you couldn't walk past, basically turning it all into one large tunnel. Very annoying to see that all the outdoor areas are now walled in, or at least seem that way. There were a couple videos that showed hints of the freedom they had originally promised, with large branching areas, but it seems certain those branches in those open areas just led to more tunnels.

I don't know how recent those videos are, the graphics don't really seem improved over the pics I've seen like I heard they were supposed to be, but if they are an indication of what the game is like in general, well, rather annoying to say the least. Another thing is they really didn't show off the society engine. I suppose that's something to be experienced first hand though. I certainly hope it's a lot more expansive than the KOTOR good/evil system though, as they promised in the past. It just seems as though all the promises of the past are meeting reality and not really matching up as well.

Still, if the society system is still as varied as it was before (I don't JUST want them reacting to my good/evil alignment, it should be much more diverse and based on individual actions), I still want it. Let's just hope it doesn't end up being reduced to merely a KOTOR clone.

That was the build that was shown at the GDC just a week or two ago, so it should be new. You can't really tell how nice the graphics are from those crappy videos though.

The whole good/evil system is still just as dynamic as they promised from the beginning, but I don't know how dynanic the AI reactions are just yet.

Quote:xboxadvanced.com has a 20 new videos up from GDC (as well as new screens), and I have to say that my worst fears have come true.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! I really loved that about Morrowind that you could go anywhere you wanted to!! How could they do this?! HOW?!
