    Bang! Zoom! To the Moon!!

Now I'm on the Moon too! *is on the moon*

We're whalers on the moon. We carry our harpoons, but there ain't no whales so we tell tall tales and sing this whaling tune.

    And then, onward to Mars!

Remember to always respect Mother Mars.

Well you're in luck! I just happened to bring along an 18-hole championship golf crouse in my suitcase! And it's exclusive, so that way we won't have to worry about any those filthy people who aren't rich or snooty like us trying to play golf on it!

Uranus is the god of the universe/sky/heavens... one of the oldest gods. Married Gaea (Earth) and had the Titans as his children...

So if the Titans are children of the gods, why did they lose to a bunch of rebel farmers with guns today? I hereby declare this silly mythology stuff to be silly and non-applicable to sports. Or something.

Sorry, I went pretty far off on a tangent there. I'll do it myself.

I want to move to the moon and open up a club. It'll have a bar with every form of beverage imaginable; legal prostitution for those lonely nights; a strip club, casino, arcade with every video game every designed, hotel, olympic-sized pool, discotheque, spaa, Taco Bell, and a library with every book/manuscript/tome ever written.

The Titans are the original children of Uranus and Gaea... they ruled for a long time, but then eventually their children, who became the Olympian Gods, rebelled and defeated them and took over, led by Zeus. :)

    And then Mars!

Can you believe how many people on TV have been actually insulting this plan? Yeesh, apparently everyone is happy with things the way they are and don't exactly WANT progress. "What exactly are we getting out of this?" Gee I wonder! They are even criticizing the original moon landing! (Just a tad better than questioning if it happened at least.) They are wondering what we ever got out of THAT. Yeesh, the number of discoveries that have fueled new inventions is extremely huge! It's not just frickin' tefflon!

Makes ya wonder what the point of even inventing stuff is if everyone is just going to sit around criticizing it from it's inception to long after it's completion, but like the hypocrites they are they'll use the very items they think are causing the downfall of civilization.

Sorry, just a tad venty right now :D.

A reason to go back to the moon is to stop the Chinese communist from gaining dominion in space,So you could call it a national sercurity threat.

Science is being poorly taught to are kids today and interest in it has declined while drug use and drepression have climbed.
Going to the moon and mars would inspire people to better themselves and get kids to take interest in science again.

Mining mars would be very profitable as it is loaded with gold ,Bronze ,Iron and other precious metals. It could create a new frontier for this planet as a hole and doing somthing positive for a change.

I'm 100% for it; I'm wondering why we aren't there already. It took less than a decade for the newborn NASA to take men to the moon; now 3x that expanse of time later, we're...well NOTHING! We're down two space shuttles, two brave crews...and all that we DO have is an international tea party in orbit.

    MARS OR BUST!

For all we know the moon is a big gold mine just waiting to be harvested. I think a way for Bush to pay for this advance is to get Canada and Russia involved in this, Russia has the most advance standard rockets as the U.S rocketry didnt get upgraded since the apollo missions , The Russian rockets are cheap and they have made a profit off of it.

Inventions we will need to be created are artificial gravity , Radiation Sheilding .

I think it is premature to say who will win the election. As the terrorist are still masacreing troops by the dozen in Iraq and as long as that continues the presidents opponents will critize him. As for the new space initiative that is a great opportunity for all of mankind and I hope it never gets shut down.

We tried that before. You won't help; but after we've colonized the moon, Canada will apply for the first big building contracts there too.

Gold? Hardly likely. If the entire thing was made of gold underneath, it would have a lot more gravitational influence. Besides, big deal about gold. Precious minerals no longer determine the worth of money here on Earth. It's what the public at large THINKS money is worth that determines it's worth. This is the first thing anyone learns in economy class.

Generally, the hope is that, as resent hypothesis suggest, there are hidden pockets of water on Luna (the second we have a base on Mars, we'll kinda need to call our moon by it's actual name, since there will actually be more than one, though Mars' moons are pathetically small and will eventually crash into Mars itself), left there from impacts long ago. If there's water, you have fuel, cheap fuel that doesn't need to be flown TO the moon. Then, a base can be set up there permanently (especially if they can get a biodome working), with the entire goal of launching ships to the rest of the solar system from a very low gravity environment. That's the great thing about having the moon here. It's a cheap launch pad. A modified roller coaster will be enough to reach Luna's escape velocity.

One last thing, who here wouldn't love to brave the harsh cold vacuum of space inside what's effectively a giant balloon? Well, live your dreams because one of NASA's ideas is a big ol' inflatable space ship!

One REAL last thing. Anyone have any issues with a space craft with a big ol' parachute like thing about a mile ahead of it that uses the shockwaves produced by nuclear explosions to propel itself forward and accelerate REALLY fast? I love it and could see it working except... What about the extreme g's crushing the astronaut's bones?

Zoidburg: The bones! Always with the bones!

A good idea for some Income for nasa is collect lunar and Martian soil to sell back on earth, I am sure tons of people would pay any price for dirt from another planet.

Is that Ice I see in that picture? If it is then it seems a mars colony would be all setup with a water supply. If there is Iron on the planet we may be abled to have factories on the planet and start making some cool things with it.I heard that a reason mars is red is because it has alot of Copper in the soil? I am not sure if it is true though.

Mars is red. Iron. And the top icecap is ice. The bottom one is CO2 though, I think.

All they would need to do is build a Giant Green house dome on mars and their you got your oxygen . I guess they will need to found a colony in the north pole of mars. But what is interesting is that there is water! How does water come on such a lifeless planet?

Its ice, not liquid water... and I think it's somewhat thinly spread, but still it is there so that definitely would be a big help for any colony, especially considering how the atmosphere is toxic...

They might have to Purify it , So they should collect samples of the mars Ice sheet to check to see if it is edible and also if it has any traces of life in it.

They would also have to recycle water brought from earth.

I think a cool game would be one were you found a colonies on the moon and mars , You have to supply the basic necessaties water,Oxygen,Food, Also gather resources. But it would be amazing to see what we could build in real life, But all of our skill and testing in this will all happen on the moon.
