Yeah, you might be thinking of Jean Chretien, who ended his ten-year reign just a couple of days ago. Sad to see him go, I wanted his party to stay in power 'till I was 18 and could vote for it.

Nah, he's a super-talented French director. He did Delicatessen, City of the Lost Children, alien resurrection, and Amelie. He's got a really incredible visual style and all of you need to check his movies out.

And before you say "Alien 4? What??!", remember that David Fincher also made Alien 3 which sucked, and he's made a bunch of great flicks.

I saw Amelie and about half of City of Lost Children (in a night of ecstasy and hope that would be crushed only a few nights in the future), and I liked them both. I THOUGHT the actor who played the twins (octouplets?) looked like the same man who played the obsessive man in Amelie. I SO PERCEPTIVE!

    Yup, same guy.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet has a really interesting visual style that he expresses through his work, and that applies to everything from set design to camera angles. Think Tim Burton if his work was more clean, and then add a whole bunch of French weirdness on top of it. City of the Lost Children is probably his most unique flick in terms of visuals, but I prefer Amelie overall. You guys should really check out his stuff. I think that GR in particular will like him.
