Well, college football has been going now for somewhat more than a month, but I figured that we needed a thread about it. That being said...GO SOONERS!!! WOOOO!!! See, if this had been the normal thread I would have ranted 50% more than that, but I think I should try to tone things down a bit this time around.

Well, college baseball isn't televised much so that might be a part of it. I only see Illinois games down here as well as the College World Series.

Anyway, I'm not talking about college football because Illinois is almost as bad in college football as the Bears are in the NFL.

I didn't know that college hockey was that popular. I don't really know why those particular sports are more popular...they just are.

Several people at my school expressed their opinion that Texas would stomp the Sooners into the ground. I can't wait to talk to them again.

We don't have Indian casinos, but they want to build one... its a big question on the elections ballot this November (in Maine referrendums that the people pass are law...). I'm against it.

No, hockey is not better than football. It's darn close, but this is neither horseshoes nor hand grenades.

I live in Colorado Springs, home of the Colorado College Tigers, who are one of the top NCAA hockey teams. And nobody here cares. I think it's because the Avs are so good and get all the attention, plus Colorado has the CU Buffs, CSU Rams, and Air Force Academy Falcons, which are usually all very good football teams. Everybody here is big AFA fans, since the Academy is in Colorado Springs and we have 2 other Air Force bases within 30 miles.

But at heart I am a Wahington State Cougar fan. Go Wazzu!

Hockey is a waaaaaay faster game than football is, and you can't say it's not without being a dumbass. Actually 60 minutes of the game are played, not the twelve whole minutes of actualy football that is played in a game (Kickoff, wait thirty seconds, do a running play, wait another 30-35 seconds, do another four second running play, tick thirty seconds of the clock, PASS IT! Oh, dropped pass, at least another four seconds are ticked off etc. etc.). Watching players skate around the ice at insanely high speeds is much more entertaining that seeing a 300 pound blocker (or whatever they are called...) doing his best not to pass out from being on the field for over twenty seconds at a time. Also, being a hockey player requires way more skill than being a football player. Learning how to skate, for one, can be very difficult, and the amount of years it takes to develop a slap-shot that goes over 90 mph is a long road...Hockey players have to excel at every aspect of the game, where as football players only have to be good at one part (running, kicking, catching, being a fat-ass etc.).

Average amount of goals in a hockey game is about 3 a piece...depending on the team you are playing however that can differ. Besides, it's way more fun to watch a third period or overtime game that's at 1-1, 2-2 etc. than a tight football game, because half the time those games end with the quarterback kneeling three plays in a row, and then the game just ending with 35 seconds left anyways.

That's one thing I really dislike about [NFL] football, anyways; they don't stop the clock as much as they should.

The physical aspects of both games are the same, however, I figure.

Now that's just ignorant. Football players sometimes learn several positions, and each position, for each coach has literally dozens of formations, variations, patterns and routes. A halfback for instance MUST know how to run outside, through the gaps, sweeps, catch passes, run routes, and act as a blocker, to say nothing of those that play on special teams. And each of those attributes is made up of many different variations. Plus, to be successful they must know how to improvise.

I personally find it much more exciting to see a long kick return, a timely interception, a blasting sack that forces a fumble, or a long touchdown pass thrown through the hands of a tight triple zone defense. I also find overtime games in football to be immensely more interesting than hockey because football games almost never end in ties. The NFL has had three ties games in the last 15 years, I think.

To each their own. Now, hockey in your thread, football in this one.

The Sooners have just beat Texas A&M 77-0. That's really bad. It almost makes me feel embarrassed to be a Sooners fan...almost!! The next two games the Sooners have are against Texas Tech, who they should have no problem beating, and Baylor, who they couldn't lose to even if they just layed down on the field for half the game.

My God... and on top of all that they didn't score at all in the fourth quarter! That was just fucking amazing. I was in awe.

And didn't A&M put up almost that many points on Baylor earlier this year? I bet they aren't feeling too eager to play Okie.

Besides, Tech is out now. Lost to Pitt yet again, surprise. This just a week after we annihilate the second-best team in the nation. *sigh*

Yeah, Stoops had to purposely make plays that wouldn't gain very many yards just so A&M wouldn't lose by more than they already were.

A&M beat Baylor 73-10. So, this game really says a lot about Baylor...and the Sooners.

FOrgive me a moment while I professionalize this thread, but thanks to the mad skills of Doug Flutie, the Lightning Bolts whooped up on the Vikings. On top of that, they outscored the Chiefs for the day!
