Celestial Soda Pop or any other Ray Lynch song is the obvious choice.

That's my job: I'm a party-pooper. I was born to poop parties. Pooping parties is my name, pooping parties is my game.

But I suppose I've always been partial to MMMBop. This information isn't to leave this thread!

Um, undertow is water. You can't kill water.

How can anyone here not love Come On Eileen! It's the best song of the 80's, and therefore, of all time! It's so catchy, and it tugs on your heart...just download, I dare you, all of you! And it's also the Goron national anthem.

No, I was kidding too. That was the only song I knew on the list so I picked it for kicks. ;)

edit: I remember come on eilieen now. I doubt it's the best song in the world, but it's definatly one of the catchiest.

Then again, looking at a lot of all you peoples' choices in music, mine's very different.

So what, the fact that we live within a few hours of one another makes us the same nation, and culturally alike? So, are all European countries one and the same, being all within a few hours of one another? Ass.

That is definitely true... while there are huge differences between the different parts of the US, for sure, there are even bigger ones in Europe...

And I would not say that there are huge cultural differences between Maine and Massachusetts. :)

Oh, so the world-leading, English-speaking USA is more alike to the tame, blingual, backwater Canada than:

    -Austria and Germany?
    -Czech Republic and Slovak Republic?
    -Belgium and Holland?
    -Malta and Italy?

    Methinks not, gentlemen.

Its Slovakia, not the 'Slovak Republic'...

And all of those nations have more differences than you realize... yes, even Austria and Germany, though they aren't huge in that case. I would say that there are good sized differences between The Netherlands and Belgium or Czech Republic and Slovakia (if they were so similar then why, exactly, did they split up from Czechoslovakia? :) )...

Oh yeah, and Europe is FAR more bilingual than either the US or Canada, by many orders of magnitude...

Obviously Darunia has never been to Europe before. Austria and Germany are very different from each other. Just because they speak the same language doesn't mean that they're identical to each other.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia is not a fair comparison because they were once one big country, Czechoslovakia. But they are still more different than the US and Canada. Belgium and Holland are nothing alike, so I don't know why you mentioned those two. Italy and Malta? Are you mad?

I haven't been to some of those countries, but I have been to Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia (though it was Czechoslovakia when I was there), and Italy (and the Munich Airport)... and know enough about the rest of those nations to know that they are all quite different.

Yes, Germany and Austria both speak German, and have a lot of common history... but each one is quite distinctly different, especially now. Darunia just has no clue what he is talking about.

Whoa buddy, if you don't want to call it the Slovak Republic, take it up with the Slovakians, because they named it that. And the US government recognizes it as such. The conventional long form is "SLOVAK REPUBLIC". What you said is like saying "This is America, NOT the United States." Don't believe me? Allow me to rub it in by referring you to: http://www.odci.gov/cia/publications/fac...os/lo.html

Obviously Darunia has never been to Europe before.

Wow, the arrogance in that is so thick you could cut it with a knife. I was due to visit London on a class trip before 9-11 cancelled it. I'm sorry I'm not as rich and fortunate as your majesty to be able to afford trips to Europe.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia is not a fair comparison because they were once one big country, Czechoslovakia. But they are still more different than the US and Canada.

I think you'll have a very, very hard time proving that, as it's only a matter of opinion "how different" they are.

Belgium and Holland are nothing alike

They were one country until 1830. They're neighbors. Until the 1830 separation, they'd always been considered one entity. Over half of Belgium is a Dutch-speaking majority. They're assumed identical foreign policies. They're about as alike as they can be while being two sovereign states. Ass.

Darunia just has no clue what he is talking about.

Yes, no idea what ever. We were discussing the price of fish in Russia, weren't we?

    Yeah, we didn't think so...

Quote:I think you'll have a very, very hard time proving that, as it's only a matter of opinion "how different" they are.

And you know this how? OB1 would know this best... I was mostly in the Czech part, not Slovakia (we mostly just drove through that part, if we even went there...), and it was quite some time ago... but still, I'm sure I know more about that than you do... given you don't seem to have anything to back up your claims, and have even less to show that the US and Canada are actually different on most all issues.

Nope. Just look. Belgium IS half Dutch-speaking, but its Flemish half gives it a quite different character that you fail to recognize... and as for policy, they are very different. For example Belgium isn't quite on the same page as the Netherlands on drug laws... but the culture is most important, and you just fail to recognize that there are huge gulfs in culture between the nations of Europe. Yes, there are some in the US (North-South is the biggest one..., but not to the extent or of the age (and thus there has been less time for them to set in) or the severity (since Americans move around all the time...) of Europeans.

French and Germans may agree on many policy issues, but culturally they are still very, very different...

I have never heard it called the 'Slovak Republic' before. Never.

And that means...what? Oh yea...nothing. I'll be sure and write to the CIA, and tell them that you disagree with them. It make take some doing, but I may be able to convince the UN to force the Slovak Republic to absolve that name, so that you'll be right.

    Yeah, we didn't think so...

...AGAIN, the arrogance is so think one could cut it with a knife.

And you know this how? OB1 would know this best... ...and that changes what? That proves nothing on whether or not the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic are any more alike or different compared to America and Canada.

...and again on Holland-Belgium, I was only serving to point out that they aren't "NOTHING ALIKE" as OB1 said. I did more than that. They have many similarities. I didn't say they were fucking one and the same. Ass.

Only people in Quebec speak French, mostly. French is even an optional school course, so of course Canada is not all bilingual.

What can't you idiot understand? Canada is officially a bilingual nation. They speak English and French, officially. The United States is not a bilingual country, not officially anyway. I used this as a difference between the two countries, and nothing more. You don't seem able to grasp this concept. I never said ALL CANADIANS SPEAK ENGLISH AND FRENCH. I said it is a BILINGUAL NATION. It is. Get over it.

I think we're about due for another TC Awards, I nominate Darunia for the 'Biggest Loser Who Needs to Get a Life' award.

For taking a contrary position to you I'm a loser who needs to get a life...Oohh, really intimidating. My feelings are really hurt, so I should concede to your argument. Ass. You're worse than OB1. Walk into an argument, join the majority (of course), and then take it to heart. As if you even give a shit about this argument.

I say Chop Suey by System of a Down is the best song ever, but I can dig Stairway to Heaven.

Yea well I say that that song is a cock-sucking asshole of a song.

Quote:And that means...what? Oh yea...nothing. I'll be sure and write to the CIA, and tell them that you disagree with them. It make take some doing, but I may be able to convince the UN to force the Slovak Republic to absolve that name, so that you'll be right.

Dead link. And its Slovakia in all the maps...

Quote:...and that changes what? That proves nothing on whether or not the Slovak Republic and the Czech Republic are any more alike or different compared to America and Canada.

...and again on Holland-Belgium, I was only serving to point out that they aren't "NOTHING ALIKE" as OB1 said. I did more than that. They have many similarities. I didn't say they were fucking one and the same. Ass.

*Cracks knuckles* Oh boy, another Tendo City vs. Darunia armageddon show down. Been a while.

Note how you always lose them, really badly? Maybe you should give up...

First, what do you mean by alike or different? Domestic policy? Foreign policy? Culture? The price of toothpicks? You are being so general! On the culture front, the US and Canada are many, many times more similar than any of those other pairs... and culture should be one of the most important factors here, if not THE most important one! What are you basing your bizarre impressions on???

Okay, "nothing alike" is an overstatement. But saying that they are more similar than the US and Canada? Lunacy!

Dead link. And its Slovakia in all the maps...

Link works fine to me, but even if it by some freak accident doesn't work only on your computer, go to any search engine, look up the CIA World Factbook, and look up the file on "Slovakia". Read it and read:

    conventional long form: Slovak Republic
    conventional short form: Slovakia
    local short form: Slovensko
    local long form: Slovenska Republika

Note how you always lose them, really badly? Maybe you should give up...

I don't recall having lost any, but if I have, it's only a tribute to me: It takes all of TC to unify to topple me.

Okay, "nothing alike" is an overstatement. But saying that they are more similar than the US and Canada? Lunacy!

Oh I quite agree. Fortunately I didn't say that they're more alike than the US and Canada. And thank you for the satisfaction of admitting defeat in that "nothing alike" argument.

Umm... that was OB1's arguement, not mine. I agree with him mostly, he just exaggerated it a bit... :)

Quote: Oh, so the world-leading, English-speaking USA is more alike to the tame, blingual, backwater Canada than:

    Methinks not, gentlemen.

You said they were more alike than the US and Canada. That was your direct arguement. And now you say that you were wrong? Uhh... yup, you sure have debating skills that would require all of TC to topple! Rolleyes

Yeah...that statement about it taking all of TC to topple him was the stupidest thing I have ever read. Statements like that is why I think Darunia is a loser with no life.

He probably doesn't get out much, either. And I'm sure he's real ugly too.

    You know I'm right.

Haha, I don't take many trips to Europe. As a matter of fact I've only flown there once. It's just that I lived there for four years an visited all around the place (which is very cheap).

Quote:Oh I quite agree. Fortunately I didn't say that they're more alike than the US and Canada. And thank you for the satisfaction of admitting defeat in that "nothing alike" argument.

    hy·per·bo·le n.

A figure of speech in which exaggeration is used for emphasis or effect, as in I could sleep for a year or This book weighs a ton.

Of course there are some similarities between the two countries, but compared to the U.S. and Canada they could be seen as nothing alike. I'm sorry to burst your bubble but there are very few major cultural differences between the U.S. and Canada. Hell, there are more cultural differences between Colorado and Alabama than the general U.S. and Canada.

Quote:What can't you idiot understand? Canada is officially a bilingual nation. They speak English and French, officially. The United States is not a bilingual country, not officially anyway. I used this as a difference between the two countries, and nothing more. You don't seem able to grasp this concept. I never said ALL CANADIANS SPEAK ENGLISH AND FRENCH. I said it is a BILINGUAL NATION. It is. Get over it.

Almost everyone in Europe speaks at least two languages. Depending on where you go in Belgium they'll be speaking Dutch, German, Flemish (the funniest language in the world), French (a bit), and English is taught in schools. Most of the country speaks Dutch but it's a bit different from how they speak it in Holland, sort of like the difference between British English and American English. The same thing goes for Austria and Germany. Two very different German accents.

Oh and for the record, the best cheese in the world comes from Holland and the best chocolate in the world comes from Belgium. :D My family had a bunch of friends from Belgium and they'd visit us quite often, bringing incredible chocolates every time.

Quote:And that means...what? Oh yea...nothing. I'll be sure and write to the CIA, and tell them that you disagree with them. It make take some doing, but I may be able to convince the UN to force the Slovak Republic to absolve that name, so that you'll be right.

Most people in Slovakia don't refer to it as that. Just like we over here don't call the U.S. "The United States of America" when we're talking casually.

I'm sure thats true, but he said that he'd never heard of it before, thusly making me out to be an ass in having called it by the wrong name. I was simply proving that is known as the SLOVAK REPUBLIC.

And still no one understands that Canada is a bilingual nation and America isn't. I won't endeavor trying to stress this any further.

Rolleyes Resorting to name-calling is surely the mark of an excellent, intelligent person. What Mr. Fittisize is arguing boils down to:

Darunia doesn't know as much about Europe as I. Therfore, he is mentally unstable, physically unattractive, and socially a hermit.

Now that's just bad logic. I could just as easily sayd "Well, Fittisize was making fun of me, so he MUST be a homosexual Jew."

    Ass.

According to your profile, Darunia, you're 19 years old. Find something more contstructive to do with your time then try to make others look stupid and yourself look like smart(although, from some of the your statements I have read, you're the only dumbass here). Or, at least begin to act like you are even close to being 19 years. That's why you're a loser with no life.

And the part about you being ugly I just guessed. I'm probably right.

You are the biggest fucking asshole ever...! Really; you make my past conflicts with OB1 and Lazy Fat Ass seem like minor disagreements. Whats more, is that you're just incredibly rude, and very assuming. I don't care what you think of me...fact is you'll never really know, regardless of what you or I say. I'm a loser with no life because I said that Canada and the US aren't as similar as you think. My god man, you are an ignorant fuck...a seething anal lesion. Kiss my ass, and don't bother posting unless you're going to make an intelligent rebuke.

People in Quebec are mostly bilingual. The rest of the nation is exactly the same as the US.

And Darunia... in the future, its generally a good debating skill to not directly contradict yourself so quickly while acting like nothing happened? It looks really, really stupid...

And STILL they beat around the bush. Canada is OFFICIALLY listed as BILINGUAL country because it OFFICIALLY has TWO LANGUAGES. The US has no OFFICIAL language, though it's obviously english. This FACT is a difference between both countries. I didn't say every Canadian speaks English and French, and I know damn well that all les Québeçois live in Québec.

You can argue this all day, but the fact will remain that I live the greatest, wealthiest and most powerful nation on Earth, and you're just a sour nationalist prick.

As you say yourself there, the language(s) a nation lists really don't matter at all compared to what the people there actually speak... so Canada has two official languages. So? Why does that matter at all? Most CANADIANS, the people who are in the country and actually matter, speak just English!

And the US doesn't have an official language for a very good reason... it would hurt immigrants a lot. In 1776 it was mostly the German immigrants who prompted them to not have an official language, but over the years its been one group after another... and it does help them. Now, do they have to learn English to really be a part of the society? Yeah... which is why it generally takes a couple of generations. An immigrants children will know English even if they don't, and soon they are American... but having an official language would hurt immigration, which would be bad because immigration is what built this country and its what continues to give us people (without immigration, the US population would be dropping just like much of the industrialized world...) and new ideas...

so Canada has two official languages. So? Why does that matter at all?

Argh! It only matters as much as you want it to, but the fact remains that it is, however trifling, A DIFFERENCE between both countries. That was my ONLY point. We can spend another WEEK fucking arguing that, and it won't change.

And the US doesn't have an official language for a very good reason... it would hurt immigrants a lot.

Canada is almost as rich (if rich is the word...) in immigrants as we are, doesn't your official language act hurt them?

We may've been built on immigration, but just as being too diverse killed the Austro-Hungarian empire, it's hurting us too. It was fine up until a few decades ago...you came here and learned English...sink or swim...but now we're condescending to them. Spanish is everywhere and it bugs me beyond comprehension.
