    From Gamesarefun:

Quote:Sony has recently faced some financial woes, as its shares fell to the lowest point in nearly eight years this month. But Sony always seems to have a trick up its sleeve to win the trust of investors, and this time around the trick is a rather interesting one: the PSX.

The PSX? No, it's not the Playstation or PS One, which was often referred to as the PSX. No, this PSX is a version of the PS2 hardware that comes fully equipped with a built-in tv tuner, hard drive, and a dvd recorder. Obviously, some of these new features will allow users to download content from the internet.

This new system will hit Japan this winter, and is said to be coming stateside next year. The details are still a tad sketchy at this point, but the fact remains that this is an exciting bit of news. We will definitely have more on this news shortly. Check back with us in a bit!

Wow, I guess Sony is finally making that stupid set-top box they've been talking about for years now. I wonder how 'spensive it will be.

    It sure is sexy though!

Boy Sony is really driving the whole multitask thing into the ground. A PS2 with a hard-drive, DVD record, remote control, and blender (with 10 speeds!) ought to make for quite an interesting console war when the next-next gen consoles are unleashed.

    A....
    -PS2/ATM
    -PS2/Washing Machine
    -PS2/Tissue Box
    -PS2/Gumball Machine
    -PS2/Incense Holder

But it's... it's sleek and... and white! White like the night!

But is that a kitchen sink or a bathroom sink? Big difference in features there...

No problem including a hard drive, that's pretty much going to be a standard I think.

This is why I always call the old system the PS1. It just makes more sense. Never did have any idea where the X came from anyway.

The original codename for the PlayStation was PSX. It stood for PlayStation Experience or something along those lines.

BTW according to CVG the console will cost around 500 quid, which is about $750 USD. But it will most likely be around $600 USD. Sony, MS, and Nintendo seem to forget that one British pound doesn't equal one US Dollar.

Yeah, European prices are so high... I'm not sure, but I very highly doubt that in Europe games are 50 Euros... that'd mean that they wouldn't be paying more than us, which the game companies seem to think is a awful idea...

And I thought it was EXperimental...

Which is why I added "or something along those lines". ;)

But on the other hand, screw Europe. I care about Japan because most of the games are made there, then America because that's where I live. Europe does nothing for me, except make games and release them here before they are released in the home land. Those guys are so nice. Prices should be fair for them.

Yes, European gamers have it hard... inflated game prices and late game arrivals (even, as you say, from developers in Europe) and in some places very strict content laws (like Germany...) make for a tough place to be a gamer...

Oh, and I'm pretty sure it was Experimental... and yes, it was never official. Sony always just called it the Playstation... I don't remember the details really. It might have been a name for some prototype or something...

I had to import most of my N64 games from the U.S. because all of them costed more than $100 here in Croatia.

You know there is a serious problem when importing is cheaper than buying new...

Yup. And that was late in the system's life, after Nintendo dropped the price of most of their games from $75 to $60.
