I don't think anyone says "go to hell" any more. I think it got replaced, and I think we all know what replaced it. Discuss.

    Also, "true dat".

    Totally Rad :P

I asked a coworker "Capiche?" the other day. He laughed and said he hadn't heard that in a long time. I admitted that the 90s was a while ago.

I thought capiche was used exclusively in 80's cop dramas. I didn't realize actual people in the real world ever used it.

Maybe it's an east coast thing. Lotsa italians around here. But yeah, you pretty much never hear anyone say it anymore.

Forgot to ask, what did "go to hell" get replaced with? "Shut the fuck up"? I still use Go To Hell as a STFU lite sometimes. Mostly in my head though. What, doesn't anyone else mentally chew people out?

'Capiche' is a stereotypical New York Italian saying, yes?

It seems rather than make someone suffer for eternity, people seem to want to have sex with people they get mad at now.

This is the phrase everyone seems to use now: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuck_You

My standard response when I hear this is "no thank you". Tends to catch people off guard.

It's like how "no problem" feels more natural to say around here than the stuffy and old fashioned "you're welcome".

I must have a filthy mind, because there were about half-a-dozen variations to "Go to hell" I was thinking. Including "Go fuck yourself." I saw a friend on facebook telling others to "Go fornicate yourself." Talk about taking the punch out of the phrase. Fornication is sex outside of marriage, yes? Pretty sure the only way to fuck yourself is fornication.

"Fornicate," it's so clumsy! I wanted to ask her why she said it but felt too embarassed. "Go fuck yourself," it rolls off the tongue so nicely and has that bite. And you can combine it with other phrases. "Here's a sandwich and go fuck yourself."

Quote:'Capiche' is a stereotypical New York Italian saying, yes?

Yep. New York City / Philadelphia / New Jersey areas are full of italians. Guess we came here fresh off the boat and liked it, so we set up pizza shops. There's like one on every corner. I take it for granted. When I go out to California, it's nice to have a change of pace and see taco places everywhere.

I'm pretty sure it was more of a joke on her part. To some people, myself included, taking the punch out of a curse phrase is hilarious.

Try this on for size: Eat feces and expire!

I don't know, she was debating politics. I saw her use it more than once, enough to spark my curiosity.

I came back to post "miser" as a word no one uses anymore. No idea why I do.
