Anything else happen? At any rate, I'll be changing my password.

Ah I see... The last backup was last month. Seems we lost a lot of posts.

On the plus side, at least that stupid hacker justified their actions to themselves. "I was just pointing out your vulnurability" (even though anyone could just send our web master an e-mail to accomplish the same goal).

I mean, yeah, that justifies it! It's no different than how if you randomly try to break into someone's house and find their windows are made out of GLASS of all things (instead of solid steel), then of course it's just neighborly courtesy to go inside, destroy half their stuff, and spray paint "you should know your house has a major vulnurability" on the wall. I mean we've ALL been there.

User notified me yesterday. I wanted to break this hackers face. Also everyone should do a virus scan, he had uploaded a Trojen.

Gah, so many posts lost! :( Pretty awful... why bother taking down a site as small as this one anyway? Stupid hackers...

Fortunately the browser (or maybe one of my addons, noscript or something?) blocked that virus... but that's why I got noscript+adblock in the first place, to try to block websites from infecting me with viruses.

Also, it's not one month of posts, it's two. But last time I remember trying to back up the database it didn't work... does it work now, or can you only do backups from the actual server? Because I'd probably have made backups myself sometimes if I actually could!

I've more or less left all the adminin' up to Etoven, but only so much can be done if either the server's security or the password chosen weren't secure enough. What to do?

Was there a virus package the page was attempting to load? Fortunately, most modern browsers alone will block such attempts and this one seems no different, so it appears to have been a rather amateurish package. Again, I suspect it was done by someone with little to no actual skill and rather just had access to a script. There are 10,000 of those to every one person actually designing the exploits, so it was only a matter of time before some dumb degenerate would come around and do such a thing. The page itself revealed their goal, to brag to a very specific friend.
