They're not jacking into people's brains and then pulling out images, which would be [dundundundundun] mind-blowing. They've made a library of images from random Youtube clips and then pairing them with similar brain activity information to make a "collage".

ie. it's still got a long way to go.

Yes, they decoded that brain activity and mapped it roughly, but still identifiably, into what was being watched. I'd say that's pretty remarkable.

It also goes a long way towards answering the "qualia" question. It seems that yes, my green is your green.
