At work now and would like to know if there's a way to make a URL that directs to a different URL. For example, if I made a URL that said http://www.newurl.com that directed to http://www.tcforums.com.

Is it free? what are the steps? thanks in advance.

It's possible if you own the first domain name. You can forward a domain name and have it point to any other domain.

There's tinyurl.com, but some people don't trust those because they won't know where they lead.

You probably have to register the alias URL, so the DNS knows what IP address it points to. I've never run a web server before, so I don't know how to do this, but try contacting your web host.

It's maybe a possibility that there's some small chance of the astronomical outcome that the extremely unlikely situation arises in which I'm partially talking out of my ass with this advice, but you don't have to know that.

You definitely have to register the alias. I have http://www.mrmilleronline.us which points to my website at derekmiller.us and I'm pretty sure it would work even if I didn't own derekmiller.us, but obviously I don't think it would work the other way around.
