Shit sucks, and because expletives are funny, lots of expletives must be extra funny, especially if they come out as yells and screams.

The AVGN is awesome. I do think he does too many poop jokes (he obviously loves them, unfortunately), and the long fight scene parts aren't the greatest, but he's mostly pretty funny, and the show is really well done and almost always interesting. The show's always been good, it's too bad that he's cutting back...

The fact that I laughed at your mockery of the AVGN just goes to show how immature I am, that I can laugh at excessive profanity regardless of any lack of substance contained within, though there are other reasons why I like the AVGN (specifically, the ones everybody else named). I also enjoy the "nerd" aspect of the series and have nostalgic fangasms anytime he brings up a classic video game such as Super Mario World or A Link to the Past.

Is he legitimately funny? He can be at times, in my opinion. At the same time, I can understand why you wouldn't find him funny since 98% of the humor is just him yelling and swearing.

I discovered That Guy With the Glasses (a.k.a. the Nostalgia Critic) shortly after discovering the Angry Video Game Nerd and I actually found him a lot funnier. The anger is toned down, but still there, and he has a lot more gags, pop cultural references, and other general silliness to make me laugh.

I never drew anything, but I also came up with ideas for board games as a kid when I was in that "board game phase." I don't remember any of them though.

I made one board game, based on David Eddings' Elenium/Tamuli series... it had a big map (big blowup of the map from the books), etc. I wonder what happened to that map...

Action 52. 26 minute episode, going through the first 51 games on the cart... Cheetahmen will evidently be getting its own episode, next time, whenever that is.

And yes, Action 52 is every bit as miserably abysmal as everyone has always said, that much is obvious. If it was actually affordable, though, I'd kind of want it... it's such a hilariously crazy thing, has any game ever had so much bad in one place? :)

Good, but he doesn't finish Cheetahmen 1 (he gets to level 5), mention that you can get to levels 5 and 6 of Cheetahmen via a cheat or modified rom, or get past the first level of Genesis Cheetahmen... a little disappointing, for such a long episode. What's there is pretty good, but why leave some stuff out?

Genesis Action 52 looks way better than the NES one overall though, that one looks like it might actually be worth getting... :)

He revisits Top Gun, TMNT (NES), and Roger Rabbit, in short, and then covers the two NES Back to the Future games in much more detail. Then he covers the Genesis Back to the Future Part III game, and the Super Famicom (JP only release) Back to the Future Part II. All except the last game are horrible. Pretty good episode, he does a good job going back and covering some of the earlier games he didn't spend much time on much more completely, plus he covers a few new ones too. Some funny stuff, and a lot of awful games. :)

Decent episode, but I'd have preferred an actual review, I think... the review bits are quite short. Still, it's clever and amusing. The Nerd retells The Grinch Who Stole Christmas.

I have Day Dreamin' Davey, it's not terrible but it's definitely not great either. Kind of frustrating game, I haven't managed to get myself to play it enough to finish the first level... kind of too bad, it looks interesting conceptually.

Pretty good episode this month, on R.O.B. and its two games. A bit more gameplay and a bit less long fight scenes might have been nice, but eh, it was pretty good anyway, this is a good episode.

Yes, that was quite nice. A nice little tribute to the 100th episode without being too preachy or clip-showey. I've actually never known anything about R.O.B. until now. What a weird, strange, bizarre machine.

That whole "ROB is actually an evil robot trying to kill humans" thing isn't exactly new, I've seen that a lot in the last few years, but even if it wasn't original, he did it well, so sure. I was expecting it and it happened.

Other than that though, it is true that ROB only had two games, and pretty much was a failure. Still though perhaps its original reason for existing succeeded, because Nintendo was trying to show, in a market where the US videogame industry had crashed out and only computers were left for gaming, that console videogames can do more than just play games on a screen, and having a robot did that... once the NES was a success, and ROB had ... obvious limitations, they dropped it. I saw an ROB once, but never have used one... the slow speed it moves at looks like it'd be maddeningly annoying, but it is an interesting idea.

I watched that just to see ROB, actually Weltall he's not just cussing and drinking to be funny this time. It was pretty amusing.

I do in fact own a ROB, though I only had Gyromite, not Stackem. The speed of the arms was part of the challenge, and though what he shows seems like it would be horrible, the game itself was pretty generous. It wasn't really much of a platformer and was much more like Bugs Bunny's Crazy Castle (incidentally, I actually liked that game as a kid).

Even though Nintendo has recently been bringing back ROB as a retro-cool thing in Mario Kart, Smash Bros. and so on, the fact is it was a pretty lame accessory. I first found out about it as a kid reading about NES accessories and it's description was something that any kid would love, a ROBOT THAT PLAYED VIDEO GAMES WITH YOU. The reality was... less than stellar. In fact, I'd say Rob is the quintessential 80's robot, he's really got it all.

Anyway, he worked pretty well for what he did, but in the end, there was not one thing about Rob that couldn't just be done in-game. A virtual Rob in-game could control gyros and blocks just as well as an actual one, and aside from the "gee wiz" factor he didn't add anything, even potentially, to the experience. That's the reason only two games were ever made with Rob in mind, and why no one actually bothered to buy the thing (sales were actually pretty bad, and come to think of it I never knew anyone as a kid who actually had the thing).

At this point, the most fun you can have with Rob is in games where he's a selectable character. I do sort of wish they'd bring back the professor from those games though... His portly look makes him seem like a Nintendo version of Dr. Light.
