I don't know that I've heard reporters use it, but within the context of internet arguments, "the truth is in the middle" isn't saying anything substantive. South Park politics, I've heard them called. I understand the desire to weigh all sides when analyzing them. I understand feeling undecided. "The truth is in the middle" might seem like a reasonable compromise, but when I see it float up, I just think "what a cop-out".
