Yeah, the whole "talking really boring-like" thing is the guy's schtick. It's supposed to be a little dry. It helps accent the writing. I think I watched the entire Phantom Menace review at some point and yep, it's both on-point and hilarious.
Has anyone seen TPM in 3D? A friend of mine went and wrote a review that basically said that it wasn't as terrible as he remembered. I myself saw it on DVD a few years ago. As someone who has criminally ignored the series in general, I have to say it was awful as a movie alone, not just a Star Wars movie. I didn't understand what was going on, plus I found it difficult to care about the characters (see Plinkett's point about there not being a solid main character), Jar Jar was awful, etc. It was basically just a kind of boring, convoluted waste of time.
I haven't really watched any of them since, but I remember seeing Episode II when it came out in high school with some friends, and I think I liked it reasonably well. I think there was still a lot on screen that I didn't understand, though. It's hard to remember much of it.
I'm looking forward to the OT being released in theatres, so I have an excuse to force myself to sit down and watch them all.
