Space Dungeon is amazing and probably my favorite game that I have bought in the last few months.
Why do I say things like this, all it does is prove I sometimes say very dumb things that I know aren't going to happen. :p
On the one hand, games-wise I somewhat kept to that. I have bought games over the past almost-a-month, but not THAT many.
I just... also bought ANOTHER expensive old computer platform... but uh more on that later.
Games first.
These four I bought locally a couple of weeks ago, on April 22nd. They're a mixed bag to be sure. Rival Turf's a decent beat 'em up; I've had the last game in this 'series' from Jaleco for a long time, The Peace Keepers. This one isn't as good as that game but it's alright. Bloody Roar I have always disliked but those games' prices have gone way up so this actually was a decent price. And anyway I've never played the PS1 Bloody Roar games, I mostly dislike the series from its GC/PS2 games. I can't imagine these are any better but who knows?
720 Degrees NES Cart Only $5.00
Bloody Roar II PlayStation, PSX, PS1 Disc in Generic Case $8.00
Rival Turf Super NES Cart Only $15.00
Sky Diver Atari 2600 Cart Only $1.00
These next four I got from ebay, from several different sellers. The two import games took a while to arrive, but by the standards of COVID-era shipping from Japan it really wasn't too bad. As for the games, all four are definitely good. Treasure Island is an interesting and good arcade game with its only home port on the TI99/4A, Charge n Blast a somewhat original rail-shooter-ish game, and the two Japanese games some pretty cool imports for their systems. Gate of Thunder is one of the big Turbo CD shmups I don't have, so it's awesome to finally have it; it's a great game for sure.
Treasure Island (Data East) TI-99/4A 04/26/21 from ebay Cart Only $18.62
Charge 'N Blast Dreamcast 04/28/21 from ebay Complete $25.24
Splatterhouse Wanpaku Grafitti (J) NES 05/08/21 from ebay Cart Only $44.54
Gate of Thunder (J) TurboGrafx-CD, TCD 05/09/21 from ebay Complete $118.16
Also from ebay I bought some (unopened) sets for Lego Dimensions, adding some more of the character packs and such. I got the Sonic the Hedgehog and Teen Titans (team pack) ones, along with Gremlins and Portal 2. These things are not cheap but hey, nothing Lego is. I do still want the two other main expansions for the game, the Ghostbusters Movie and Fantastic Beasts ones, but other than that these are the main ones I really wanted.
Additionally, I backed a new game for a classic console last year, and after a not-too-long delay the game's here already. It's a platformer for the Turbo CD. It's a somewhat Metroid-ish game in a way because the levels have multiple routes and you collect items which open up paths as you go.The game will also have TG16 HuCard and Sega Genesis releases, so despite being a Super CD game it does nothing with the format at all other than having CD audio, disappointingly, but the game itself is solid. Some kind of enhanced intro and such for the CD version would have been nice though, oh well.
Jessie Jaeger in Cleopatra's Curse [Homebrew Release] TurboGrafx-CD, TCD 04/23/21 Kickstarter backed - got complete disc copy Complete $39.00
And these three I bought today.
Cradle of Rome Nintendo DS, NDS Cart Only $4.00 - I like DS (and 3DS) puzzle games a lot, and still play them almost daily.
Ghost of Tsushima PlayStation 4, PS4 Complete $40.00 - Paying this much for something probably unlikely to really be my thing may not be the best idea but the game does at least look amazing visually and I want to give it a try...
Woody Woodpecker Racing Game Boy Color, GBC (GBC Only) Cart Only $9.00 Why this game? Well, it's actually highly regarded as one of the GBC's best kart-style racers. I remembered that and wanted to give the game a try.
And what new old computer did I spend a bunch of money on? Well, it's something a lot more intresting than that VIC-20, that's for sure, at least for me. I'll cover it soon, I've spent a lot of time over the past week-plus researching a lot of the complexities of using this platform...
