Than in DKC? Yeah, you're probably right, but the characters in DKC never quite felt like they were going at Mario-like speeds, like Mario did in Mario 1, 3, or World..
Of course, as you say there were reasons, but the pace of the games was slower. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just true.

The GB games had to work with the smaller resolution and bigger sprites. They had to slow him down.
