It's self-censorship and self-delusion, partially... the government isn't saying "you cannot air those stories". I'm sure that there is internal pressure from this administration to not talk about things like most of those, but if the news media really wanted to they could... but they also have to appease their corporate owners and sponsors, and deal with the extremely partisan, polarized political climate, and for the most part they don't press it. You simply don't hear about stuff like most of that in the press very often... though Iraq is in the news every day, and the news is almost all bad, so it's not like they're doing NOTHING. They're just not doing anywhere near as much as they could, or should, do. This applies across the board and not just to Iraq, of course...
