Why not? again we bring up the question of "If the system doesn't need to spend resources on HD graphics, could it look on par (poly count, effects) with PS3/360?" I would even say that some screen shots already look on par with first gen 360 stuff. The only ground-up titles we have seen have come from Rayman, which by comparison looks really good compared to some other stuff on Wii. But the Rayman team has always been well adjusted to pushing graphical quality.
If Wii was in fact a Gamecube, it would cost Nintendo like 10 bucks to make the system. They could sell it for 50 brand new and make a profit. But we know that Wii is 100% custom architecture, built from the ground up with huge graphics hardware companies putting in 5 years of research to build the thing, and that doesn't even count Nintendo's own research and development in to the Wiimote!
I'm just saying it's most definitely a plausible outcome.
