ABF, you are thinking about this too hard, like asexuality instantly means dividing in half. That's not exactly what I'm suggesting for more complicated creatures. They require a lot of time to develop, more time than actually using the whole split method would allow. I'm suggesting pregnancy or egg laying, with all the seperate development that would be required.
Look, it's simple as pie. All the body need do is reproduce via normal means, except instead of depending on outside DNA, just use the existing DNA at the very basic level of reproduction, the egg level. Just make an egg with the DNA of the creature instead of half the DNA waiting for the other half to arrive. What's so hard to understand about how that could work?
As for why complicated creatures don't reproduce asexually if it's that simple, as I explained, evolution happens a lot faster via sexual reproduction. So, much more complicated systems emerged via it, so as you might imagine, all the really complicated creatures would, as a result, BE sexuallly reproducing creatures. All I'm saying is it's very possible. Just don't overthink it.
