Interesting hypothesis. I for one have never heard it before. However, will people want to do that? I for one do intend on buying my own island nation where the only dwelling shall be a gigantic laboratory castle (Dr. Wily style), but that's just me. I believe that even with our current technology, and that which will be developed in coming years, people will still want to live near each other. Part of it is that adding arbitrary distance just makes a lot of things we do too difficult, like construction. Further, is it your contention that business buildings will soon no longer be needed at all? At the very least, we will need warehouses and construction facilities, and those will need to be manned, requiring people living nearby.
