The Muslim world isn't exactly as modern as the western world is... and anyway, if something that anathema to Christian beliefs was shown here some would complain. It's just more noticable from the Islamic world because of their (non-)level of political development...
Because, perhaps, everybody is part of the same world, and what happens in one place affect places elsewhere?
