This is exactly what I've thought. I think all of Nintendo's talk about the "third pillar" was to save themselves if the DS was a failure. Then they could say, "Don't worry, the new Gameboy is here." Now that the DS has become a success they can put off releasing a new Gameboy, and perhaps not even release a new Gameboy at all.
