That's what I can gather...
Here's the thing. The bias against being "emo" is apparently so strong that people just can't be introverted loner types any more... So, those that actually hide from people at school are likely targetted even more, despite the utter dislike of attention.
From what I've seen at YTMND, anyone even the slightest bit of an emotional sort is to be hated, beaten perhaps, for being so weak.
