Hard to break down the code and then update it, sure, but hard to emulate? Not so sure. Don't emulators already work with FF3, I mean unofficial ones? And, it's basically just that any instructions read by it need to be handled like an NES would, not that the system needs to understand what it is trying to do, just do it.
That GBA emulator they are using to run all those NES classic games they have for sale should do the job just fine, shouldn't it? And, the DS does have the GBA inside it, so...
