Well remember that SK's next game is going to be for next-generation consoles, and they made their decision based off of the next generation. They know more about the Revolution than we do, what Nintendo's plans are for the future. And Nintendo has stated that they want to go the simpler route, to get non-gamers into playing games again. SK's philosophy seems to fit better with Microsoft's, which is basically "more of the same thing, but bigger".
And really, when it comes to production values Nintendo is cheap. They're deathly afraid of voice acting for cost purposes (they admitted this years ago). Who knows, maybe SK had to fight to get any voice acting done in Eternal Darkness. And I have no idea what lazy is talking about regarding the VA in that game, because several professional actors lended their voices to ED.
