Well. The Green Party is a hard-left party... so the majority would have voted Democrat. In MOST cases, the Greens don't affect the result... the major party difference is usually much larger. But in this case, because it was so incredibly close, it did matter. Even if half of the people who voted Green had not voted at all otherwise and 1/3 of the rest voted Republican (reasonably conservative estimate there), it still would have been MORE than enough to give Gore a close, but certain, victory...
Just like how its entirely possible that the first Pres. Bush would have won a second term without Perot... he got a lot of votes and in some areas was well over the margin...
