High res VR goggles with stereoscopic vision are still around 800 bucks but man are they awesome. You can get a box that basically splits a single image in to two slightly different images and then send it in to the goggles. The result is a 3-D image but it cant calculate when something is really far away or right up next to you, it simply adds layers of background and foreground but it's still neat.
With the DS you could send two completely different images, like the same image but at slightly different angles just like our real eyes see. Combine them and you get true 3-D. Can you imagine a portable version of 3-D Perfect Dark with VR goggles and a wireless bluetooth analoge gun? *masturbates*
