The fans are still trying to save it despite this , While this certainly has hurt that effort. They are not giving up , The people who are for UPN renewal are heart broken, Now its move to CBS or game over.
From a business perspective this show was poorly managed , They were way to over confident when they started ,Instead of doing it like MGM with stargate SG1 who philosophy is to keep the quality high and the cost low, Enterprise was the 5th most exspensive tv show in record only and does about the same as stargate SG1 and SGA with triple the bills.Which is why Sg1 is renewed for season 9 and Enterprise is going into cancelation If Enterprise had the same costs as Sci three big shows I bet it would not have been canceld and could have more easily moved to another channel if it needed too.Enterprise needs 6-8 million to justify its costs , If the writers and producers B&B had not pussy footed around in the first two seasons maybe it could have held on to what it had before.
A bad tradition is that trek series since DS9 dont hit their stride till season 3-4, if a new show is created they got to stop that mind set lest they repeat what has just happen now. The first season is the most important one , TV is less forgiving now then it was a long time ago, Once a show loses its audience its almost impossible to get it back , If Enterprise waisnt a star trek series it would not have made it past season 1 with that lack luster offering it had started with, It has to be on par with the best episodes of the previous series from the start , The fans are not gonna watch a show that is not as good as what they have already seen and will not see stories they have already seen. Now Ent finally has caught on and is starting to make some great idea like In a mirror darkly and the upcoming episode "United" which starts the Romulian arc.But its too late now to undo the damage that has been done so its over.
cross your fingers and hope that saveenterprise.com and John Sullivans campaign succeed in convincing les Moonves and Viacom into getting Enterprise back on and moved to CBS empty vacant saturday night time slot.
