One must also remember that in war, anyone acting as a "human shield" is officially considered an enemy, thus it is not a war crime to kill them. For that matter, if either side uses human shields for their own purposes, it IS considered a war crime.
Anyway, becoming a "human shield" is throwing one's life away. They can do much more constructive things than do that. What will it accomplish? All it will do is create more bloodshed, the very thing they hope to prevent with this stunt. To commit suicide is a very selfish act. People must realize that in many ways their life is not just their own.
