We painted a huge sign on the roof saying human shields, so when any planes bombed the target, they'd see they were killing us -- Englishmen and Finns and Turks."

I guess that would have been effective in WW2, but now the planes fly so high and are so far away from the targets that they would never see any sign no matter how big it was. In a way, you have to admire that they believe in this cause enough it risk their lives for it, but some thinking is usually a good idea too. It's not like we usually go bombing hospitals anyway.
