Huge change? No, Kirby 64 is, in all ways except for the flying, the same as the previous games. It's definitely a Kirby game. And the flying wasn't the biggest issue with the game... just irritating. I know they did it to make the game harder, but it's fun to float over whole level sections! :)
I just didn't feel that the game held up as well on a major console as it did on the GB. On GB the Kirby games are some of the best ones. On N64 that isn't true... games are expected to do a lot more and Kirby 64 doesn't really do that. It's not a different kind of platformer like Mischief Makers or unique (in setting at least) like GGA, it's just Kirby... and not Kirby at his best. All the little problems I mention with this game, as I said, just are more noticable because I didn't feel that the game was as great as I was hoping when I was playing it. That leads to you looking more for flaws.
