The Nagas are the race that used to be Elves and were twisted. Making the Trolls that too would be kind of dumb, I think... :)
And yes, it obviously did take some inspiration from LOTR. But all fantasy does so that's okay. What it's got to do is have some originality and a good story, and they do a great job of both.
