Quote:Among the reasons for me hating rap music are:
1) It requires no talent.
2) There's no melody; they just talk really fast.
3) The lyrics make no sense...
4) ...if you can even make out any of the words they're saying.
5) The sound is not pleasing to the ears.
6) Rap songs often throw in things that don't even go with the song. (I.e. Mario or Pacman music.)
7) 90% of them talk about nothing but sex, drugs, crime, and how cool it is to be a thug.
8) Yelling obscenities every three seconds is not cool.
There are more, but that's all I feel like listing...
...wow, I listed eight whole reasons? I didn't even have to think hard to come up with them either; they just rolled off the tongue... or fingers... ya know... 'cause I was typing... and not talking. Yeah.
1.Rap music, along with any other music, requires talent. In writing, as well as freestyle. 2-who cares? Since when do rappers not talk fast in all of their songs? 3 and 4, open your ears dumbass, there are many well-crafted, thoughtfully written rap songs out there. 5-It's pleasing to enough peoples ears, I guess. There's a reason why rap is the most popular genre right now. 6-Not "often". In fact, rarely do genuine rap songs (i.e. not tampered with by listeners who instert a whole new beat in it, and put them on Kazaa) ever do that. The song "No Love" by DMX has been sampled with the tunes of many popular artists, including Michael Jackson, Gordon Lightfoot, Kansas, Mario Bros. etc. etc. etc. DMX doing none of this himself. 7 is an old stereotype associated with rap music, many of the popular rap artists right now don't rap about "how cool it is to be a thug" (whatever that is), but drugs and crime, yeah sure. But LOTS of artists in any genre write songs about drugs and crime. Queens of the Stone Age's CD is chalk-full of drug references (in Real1 Raphsody, QOTSA is listed under "Stoner Rock"), and even in country music, Dierks Bentley's "What Was I Thinking" (the anthem for my hillbilly town, as well as any in surrounding area) is about one big crime. Let's not forget Kurt Cobain, who wrote nearly all of his songs on an acid trip, and probably lots of other drugs too. Drugs are a part of music culture. After all, sex, drugs and Rock n' Roll... 8-Fuck fuck fuck. Swearing is the shit.
