Here's some news I found at the bigbluebox forums, from one of the Fable testers:
Whew! I was crying for a little while there. The testers there also said that while it's not quite as free as Morrowind and some areas do have strict paths, there are plenty of wide open areas in the game and the invisible barriers in those GDC videos will be removed in the final build.
Quote:I've been playing Fable yesterday for a couple of hours and was amazed again. For all those who are afraid they can't wander in to a big forest and get lost; you can, I got lost yesterday in a big forest (I won't say the name of the forest) that had no pre-defined paths and that had several secret locations (like a cave behind a bush or something like that etc...). Certainly at times you walk over a path, as I said, for obvious and different reasons.
It was great to walk under these very old trees, while the sun fell in, leaves fell of the trees and bandits and other aggresive and neutral creatures and NPC's wandered around as well, had a fight or found themselves in contact with the steel of my sword. Listening to the music, having a little fight here and there. It was truely great, playing yesterday and discovering this forest.
